Need help finding a board
« on: Sat, 26 February 2011, 21:49:16 »
I need help finding a board.  Here is what I am looking for.

- 10 Key-less
- Cherry Brown Switches
- Readily available on the Internet
- $150 or less
- Metal plate mounted switches
- Quality case material
- Needs to feel like it has some weight to it.  I like a board that doesn't slide around the desk real easily.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am American.

LOL, what kind of wait are we talking?  Is this something that EK is working on?  If that's the case I could wait a while :)

Rumor originally had it that they'd announce the new keyboards officially at the latest this month. Some kind of delay or issue's pushed the official announcement back till the middle of March, last was spoken of. That date doesn't guarantee availability, I imagine, but I don't know for sure. . . feels like more of a "We'll tell you when they'll be available in Mid-March! Announcing an announcement!" type of thing.

Elite Keyboards is supposed to carry Leopold.  Original ETA was February, then apparently pushed back to middle March, which is still tentative.

Diatec, the maker of Filco, was supposed to announce a new north american distributor back in mid January.  When I emailed them a few weeks ago, they then said towards the end of February, which gives them one business day left to announce something...not too likely.  Hopefully soon though.

Either way you look at it though, we should have a North American choice between Filco and Leopold in the not-too-distant future.  Too bad they will both probably be more or less exclusive to the respective distributor.  But on the plus side, I'm hoping both will be close enough in quality that there will at least be some competition between the two brands.  While I want a $100 Filco or Leopold, it's probably not going to happen yet.

Damn Noppoo and KBC distributors, where are you?

I think diatec couldn't supply enough keyboards, also the price. Leopold are supposed to be better price/performance.

I think you're wrong.

Having had an exclusive distribution agreement, I don't think it would be a smart decision to discontinue a popular (in Geek circles) brand like Filco. Leopold's certainly haven't been quick to materialize, and how much cheaper could they be?  I'm guessing Filco's would be running $140ish, and what are Leopold's going to run, around the same or maybe a little less, perhaps $120-$130?  At that price point, I think most people would simply buy what they consider to be the better board, as $10-$20 is not much of a difference.

I also think EK would be stocking whatever they could get their hands on.  No doubt they've been missing a lot of sales because they lack any product at this relative price point.  If I were EK, I'd take whatever I could get in stock right now, Filco or Leopold.

I think it's far more likely that Diatec ended the distribution agreement, UNLESS Filco is discontinuing the current majestouch line and is not making an ANSI layout for the Majestouch 2, which I would find hard to believe at this point...

EK stopped stocking Filco because......

Well, he'd rather not get into it but it involved sake, drunk Diatec reps, two Yakuza, a prostitute with a heart of gold and a bar maid.

The Diatec Reps after a few KAMPAIS!!
