Is it safe to use USB 3.0 with a realforce?
« on: Tue, 01 March 2011, 17:55:44 »
I feel like it should, but a bit scared to try. Does anyone know the rationale or theory if it is safe or not?

How would that even be possible? It's a different type of port.

Oh...I was under the impression you couldn't do that. I don't see why you couldn't then, but obviously you won't get the 3.0 speeds. I have yet to use 3.0.

I just wasn't sure if the voltage in USB 3.0 is different from USB 2.0 , and whether that might affect the keyboard somehow...

Same voltage as 2.0 and compatible pinout... No worry.
If any, the 3.0 is safer due to better voltage regulation.

A USB 2.0 Device in a USB 3.0 port will will run fine, but only at USB 2.0 speeds, making it pointless, really.

Unless you have no other USB ports free, of course.

There is no reason not to, but on the flipside, apart from lack of ports, there is no real reason to do it, either.

The early 3.0 Memory Sticks/Externals have been trickling out over the past few months, but I still think it's a long time before it becomes the new standard.

Even though it doesn't feel any different I may post at OCN that it reduces latency on April Fool's Day.

In all fairness, most of them probably already think that.

Edit: ooh, 600T. Interesting choice.

You must use a MEKA G1 Mechanical Professional Gaming Keyboard Ultrapolling at 1000Hz to really feel the difference.

LMAO
Professional Gaming
Ultrapolling
1000Hz

Those marketting experts are killing me.
Of course 1000hz is 000 time faster than 1khz.
NB: Some tard at Razer came up with "Ultrapolling" whatever that means.

Someone needs to make a thread collecting all the amazing marketing Razer is spewing out.
For instance, I bought a Krait because I needed a small, cheap gaming mouse for my lappy and laughed surprisingly hard when I read the info on the box.

I have a Deathadder mouse, which is average. Not very ergonomic either, but it does it's job.

I did have a BlackWidow, but the 1000MHz ultrapolling was so fast it stopped working within a month, and I'm selling the replacement to fund a Tenkeyless Filco.

RAZER, Y U NO QC?

Razer isn't really bad, I keep a few of their mice around for variation, but the marketing is ridiculous. Only problem I have with Razer is price; I think of their products as toys you buy to have fun with every now and then, not peripherals you can rely on and keep around for a few years. Just my opinion though, I'm sure lots of people love Razer's stuff.

Yeah, I have no real problem with their products, my DA is quite decent, and my BlackWidow is hardly representative of all BlackWidows, but I don't think I'll buy anything from them in the future.

Not because I hate them, on the contrary, just because there is almost always better available for the same sort of money.

I mean, take the price of the Razer Mamba. That much for what is, basically, a wireless Deathadder? Seems silly.

It is. I bought one without doing much research on it because I figured a good wireless gaming mouse would be great for my laptop. Then I saw the dock/wireless station when I got it. Wireless feature is basically completely useless. Was hoping for a small USB reciever, not sure if it's possible to make a hack or something like that.
It looks pretty decent though and feels solid enough, could've been worse. If you're going to spend too much money on a mouse from a gaming company I'd rather spend my money on Razer than something like Roccat and the likes.

That didn't end well.

That's why I have a small LED light under my desk to show me where to plug my connectors. I usually don't have any RJ45's free on my computer anyway.

Not really, IIRC USB 3.0 provides more (and more stable) power than USB 2.0

But seriously, OCN stereotyping still? Yeah, some of OCN would believe USB 3.0 reduces latency (and it's plausible enough), and some of Geekhack would think USB 3.0 is a physically different port to USB 2.0
