Cherry browns and topre- What's next
« on: Sat, 05 March 2011, 16:31:05 »
Hey!

So I ended up receiving my topre and I love the feeling of the keys maybe even more than my Das. I wondering, is there anything else for me to try in the keyboard world.

I have only one constraint and it's that I can't really afford to have a noisy keyboard in any of the situations where I find myself typing.

The cherry brown are just on the verge of being too noisy for me to use in the office, the topre is just perfect.

Let me know, I'm not in too much of a hurry to get something new, but you know I'm curious and would like to know what to look forward to.

Thanks,

NormaJean

Reds or blacks? Shouldn't be too noisy.

Euh... Let see  GeekHack WIKI: Mechanical+Keyboards+Sorted+By+Switch

You have two fine machines. If you start on the try more path, you will end up an OCD keyboardist like many of us.

Reds could be noisy, because it is too easy to buttom out on them.
However blacks are very pleasant.

I don't think you could find a better keyboard for low-noise environments if you already like the Topre.

I think reds and blacks would be equally noisy as browns. Personally I'm quite curious to try cherry red keys.

Recently got a 55g topre myself.

Just had a thought - since majestouch (from EK) has a deal with Leopold now, I wonder if he'll refresh his Realforce line? Leopold has the hot new Realforce stuff (104U, silent line, etc.)

Someone should pm him and ask. Someone other than me (I've bugged him enough) :D

The WW Shopping Guide that is stickied up above has all currently shipping mainstream  keyboards sorted by Clicky versus non-Clicky, and by specific switch.

If I've missed something feel free to post in the Wiki discussion portion.

In other words, a LOT more than 2 keyboards to choose from.

Also feel free to add anything on Sorted by Switch wiki, even if you dare to steal it from Ripster's WW shopping guide ;D

Or to that matter anything at all...

Have to see if I get around g80-3000 and maybe some topres tomorrow...

Going from a Topre or browns to blacks would be like going from a Bentley or Mercedes to a Trabant.

They feel kind of sluggish after typing on some low force switches.

At this point I don't really care what I have, I'm just looking for something different that wouldn't be really noisy, price is not really an issue. As a matter of fact I would like pricy, I'm looking for a uber-high build quality keyboard that's not a topre. Is there such a thing?

(I'm just looking to spend more on keyboards to piss off my gf *-))

This is the greatest idea ever. I've never thought of doing things just to piss  a GF off.

I think it's an excellent idea. However if blue cherries don't piss her off, it may be time to settle down.
