Buying advice: Cherry Browns on a budget
« on: Tue, 15 March 2011, 01:40:55 »
Hi - new to the site, and am yet to purchase my first mechanical. First became aware of the phenomenon a few months back when reading a thread on Teamliquid about Fruit Dealer, who had just won the GSL (Starcraft 2 tournament) using a Filco Majestouch.

Well I'm upgrading my computer soon, and want one of these babies - have done my research and have my heart set on something relatively compact with Cherry MX browns.

Being in Australia these things are hard to come by unless you wanna pay upwards of $150 - being on a tight budget with the new system planned and all I've been looking around for cheaper options. Here's what I've narrowed it down to (prices include EMS shipping):

PLU ML-87 - $100 (through a TaoBao Agent)

'improved' noppoo Choc Mini 84 - $112 (TaoBao Agent)

OR possibly if it's really worth the extra $:

Filco Majestouch Tenkeyless - $138 (from Armygroup in Taiwan)

 * * *
At the moment I'm sort of leaning towards the PLU - I can justify the cost more easily and if its ALMOST as good as the Filco ...

... but I don't know. These are the best prices I can find. Also be interested to know from any Australians versed in ordering these things if they know of any other cheap/good options I haven't found.

Cheers!

P.S. - I would have considered a Pchome purchase with the $10 oceania shipping but they seem to be out of stock for anything I want (i.e. English boards)

Well I ended up going with the Filco Majestouch Tenkeyless in white from Armygroup - can't wait!! Thanks for the tips Ripster - probably would have gotten the PLU otherwise (2KRO, ick - next time I'll make a checklist).

Congrats, I'm sure you will be happy with the Filco. I'm sure you'll also end up like the rest of us and buy many, many more as well!

I had the PLU and the 2kro never bothered me. Filco is always a safe and good choice.
