Everything in the world now are partly or fully made from China. The labor cost there is so cheap.

China has become the 2nd biggest economic power, overtaken Japan, and it will overtake US to become the biggest economic power in 30 years.

Thanks for the useless economics lesson. I'm pretty sure that had nothing to do with what he was asking about.

Everything I mean every keyboard (Filco, Ducky) are made from China. They can be assembled and packaged in Japan or Taiwan to get a "made by Taiwan or Japan" certificate.

Similarly, Nike sport shoes are made in Malaysia, China, and Vietnam. Ipod/Ipad/Iphone are mostly made in China too.

Hopefully it is clear now :-)

What source do you base this on?

Apple products are labelled "Made in China". Nike's label state where they are made. Similarly Filco and Ducky are made in Taiwan and therefore labelled so.

Sorry, but I believe Filco and Ducky are all made in Taiwan. Taiwan has quite a long history of producing keyboards, including the infamous  so called Fake Cherry switches were "developed" in Taiwan. I wouldn't be surprised that some of the remnants of keyboard manufacturer such as the Costar and Strong Man (alive still??)  are still manufacturing within Taiwan. Prove me wrong though if you got any concrete sources.

You don't need to settle in China to stay afloat. Lian-Li has always been making PC enclosures in Taiwan and they are doing just fine.

Actually, labor prices are rising quite sharply in China while IP still goes unrespected...and so many companies are moving to places like Vietnam, Malaysia, and even Argentina and Mexico as fuel prices rise.

Also, the Chinese are fabulous at taking a manufacturing process and making it as cheap as possible, but are generally not great at innovation and design.  If the world starts turning to other areas for production, it would be (and is) very bad news for the Chinese here.

On a side note, real estate bubbles are bursting left and right here in SW China.  Good luck with that "we will make everyone rich" idea Mr. Wen.

None of this means that I don't wish them well.  They are some of the most loving and welcoming people you will ever find, especially the further you get inland.

Does it really matter WHERE it is made? It is more important the quality of the particular factory that makes a given product. Are the Hondas imported from Japan and more reliable than the Honda's made down south?

Hit it right on the head, one of the hottest spots right now for tech is in Vietnam.  I can normally tell who is doing really well when it comes to manufacturing electronics as the price of Air freight to that destination will decrease as they put more planes in the rotation to fill the exporting needs of said airport/country which in turn means that they need to fill the planes up going there so they can offer the most competitive prices.  Electronics manufacturers LOVE Air Freight I guess its the less moving around to damage the products.  We do alot of the importing for Logitech and a good majority of it is by Air freight which I am guessing adds quite a bit onto the end price.

Hong Kong, Seoul, SGN (Ho Chi Minh City), Hanoi and Shanghai are all on the really really cheap side with Shanghai far and away being the cheapest around $.60/kg All in.  For comparison to send something to London Heathrow is around $2/kg all in for over 100 kgs and Exporting something from one of those destinations can run as high as $7/kg All in.  Guess this is kind of useless info, just bored here lol

Guess my point was if China doesnt watch keep production high and costs low they will lose alot of mfg to places like Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia.

Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't the high end Ducky keyboards made by Costar in Taiwan, and the lower end ones made by some Chinese OEM?

Well I KNOW it is a forum but I'm still curious if it's 3 guys around a kitchen table.  Or do they pay taxes like real companies?

Why do you care?

Because I like buying keyboards from real companies better.  They have things like support and RMAs.  Sometimes at least.

"Sometimes" you get support and RMAs from three guys in a kitchen. The objective measure would be service satisfaction of the real customers expressed in forums like this one.

How did you arrive at that conclusion?
