FS or Trade: Realforce 86U
« on: Sun, 20 March 2011, 08:26:14 »
It didn't take long.

I got the Realforce from a fellow geekhacker about a week or so ago.

TL;DR
I like the layout and keyfeel of the HHKB better versus the Realforce.

If anyone wants to trade their HHKB for a Realforce then let me know : )

Actually, the difference between the Realforce and the HHKB are night and day.

They are very different in sound and feel.

True, but the feeling is significantly different. 45g key in RF doesn't feel anything like HHKB's key.

Also the construction is different. The entire feel of the board is different.

I talked about the keycaps not the construction, or the topre domes.

It reminds me to the Topre Keychan trip but people are trying the Hole keyboard instead LOL

The realforce was the last keyboard I really wanted to try. I am glad I did : )
But the HHKB is a better fit for me.
The HHKB has more of a tactile feel than the Realforce. While I can emulate the key layout with xmodmap to be like the HHKB, the HHKB small form factor and out of the box key layout make it a win for me.

I thought my dislike for the numpad was bad, I now seem to have developed a dislike for
actually having to move my hand over to the navigation cluster : ) worse yet, once you emulate the HHKB the nav cluster becomes unneeded. Oooh, can't have that lol.

The HHKB also seems to make a fair bit more noise which I like.

The build quality on the Realforce is exemplary though. It may be the most solid keyboard I have ever typed on, and that inlcudes the IBM Model M mini.

Cuz you keep all the good ones!

But in all seriouness, Realforce's are the best keyboards.  As a wise Panda-R would say, the one keyboard to DOOM them all!

I wouldn't listen to Panda-R too much. I hear he's being investigated by the PBI (Panda Bureau of Investigation).
