happy hacker lite 2 question
« on: Wed, 23 March 2011, 01:03:02 »
My question might sound a bit paranoid. Two weeks ago
I asked a friend to get the keyboard in states for me and
ship it to Europe. After that, you all know what happened
to Japanese people. Does someone know where is depot
for those keyboards located? Japan or states?
At the moment I see no way to check for more info. The
last measure would be to find airport service and probe
for contamination.
Sorry if this looks heartless. I simply want to know the facts.
Best regards.

I say skip it, not worth the price, unlike its big brother HHKB Pro 2...

Too late. But I like the size and layout. Yep, I'd
take pro2, just it is a way expensive.
I found more info on (guess, guess):
http://pfuca-store.stores.yahoo.net/info.html
Seems they have it stored in states however.
I hope so.
Best regards.

I know, the HHKB Pro 2 should have the Dvorak left or right hand layout, who still has both of their hands (and legs) after buying them?

Are there any key sets available for realforce boards? Having white replacements for your dark gray realforces would be cool. White keys in a dark frame has got to be one of the wickedest looking computer peripherals.

Also, I have this urge to dye my modifier keys on my realforce, but if I screw it up I will be one sad swede.. Having spare keys (still at a topre level of cost) would make the descision a bit easier.

Or perhaps it would be possible to sell a gray modifier only set. They should be the same on most language layouts (ANSI and ISO differences not taken into account)

At the moment the only "readily" available spare key sets are the HHKB ones from elitekeyboards.

Wait, are you worried about radioactivity of your keyboard? You do realize, unless you're practically on top of the reactor site, you get about the same levels of radiation from being in a basement, right?

Hell, riding an airplane is significantly more, even.

Just for reference, all three situations are very little radiation.

Also, in a funny note, eating a banana can nearly triple your personal radioactivity. Every person has, on average, a few decay events per minute. Eating a banana increases this due to the potassium, which is often of the unstable variety. You can get yourself all the way to 10 counts per minute just by eating 2 bananas in the morning.

Finally got the kb. So far, so good, since it is better than all other cheap
ones I had.
The drawback was that I had to recompile my kernel to use it connected
to usb adapter. It simply refused to work on ps/2 with usb -> ps/2 adapter.
After about 15 minutes, freebsd booted and kb takes imput as it should.
Thanks all for support.

The HHKB Lite 2 works with a Purple dongle adapter?  Specs don't indicate this.

I had green adapter at hand. Are green and purple different? They shouldn't be.

Did you try it on another OS?

I use no other OS. The manufacturer claims on their wiki no support for ps/2,
however it sounds strange.
The point is that ps/2 can intercept boot options and load another kernel or
add something before the kernel goes up. No way with usb.
I would also use pro version of hhkb, but price tag keeps me down for now.
Best regards.

And I knew the green and purple adapters were identical
If you're talking about the passive dongles, I think I have both and they differ just by dye.
