I've been searching, but can't find a picture anywhere of a "wide carriage" IBM Selectric II.

Can you show us what you are looking at?

Do you consider this carriage as large?

VS This one

According to Wikipedia, "Both Selectric and the later Selectric II were available in standard, medium, and wide-carriage models".

If that's the case, then why the hell can't I find a single picture of the wide carriage model?

The reason I doubt the seller is that the picture of the one he has looks like a regular Selectric II. Notice how the tabs go up to 130/155 - like on the regular Selectric II. Shouldn't a "wide carriage" model go much higher?

I think, once again, Ripster is right. I suspect IBM was referring to the Operator's carriage.

That's it? That's all you've got? I probably would have been better off asking the neighbour's Shih Tzu. Pigeons drop **** on my car that's more informative than your answers.

Did you post the picture you were looking at as asked?

Selectric were sold world wide. Was the carriage the same on both azerty and qwerty? Do you even mind what layout you get?

My grand mother made a living with a Selectric. Too bad she is dead. I would have asked her about the CR.

Here I found a place where Selectric lovers can chat with retired IBM techs about the good old days.

Yes I did - and it was my second post. I just did a cache refresh and it seems to have disappeared. The link is still there, but it has been deleted from my "Attachments" list.

I'll post another:

I'm no Selectric Expert, so I don't know where the J shape CR fits in the std, med and large. As far as I know, I've only seen J and [] shapes.

If I have to select the large one between J and []... I'd chose [] because it has a bigger surface.

Yes, but the problem is that most sellers say that it works 100% when they don't do much more than turning it on to hear it hum.

Since I don't think this actually is a "wide carriage" Selectric, I think I'll just pass and wait for a nice looking one I can actually test before buying.
