Realforce 86U white
« on: Sat, 09 April 2011, 20:32:29 »
Ordered from EK, just got it this afternoon. Tried less than 10min, so it's totally new.

I found out that Topre switch is not my taste. I still prefer cherry brown.

Anyone intereted please PM me.

UPDATE: All right, tried another 2 days, still no love. Final price: $235 shipped, CONUS only. If still

no one want to take it, I'll just keep it as collection.

SOLD

Yeah, I am sure you got hell of a feel of the switches in those 10 minutes.

As I posted elsewhere, you really have to use a new keyboard exclusively for a week, then see how you feel when you switch to something else. If you're ecstatic about getting to use the other one, then by all means say you prefer it. But if you miss typing on the newer one...

I tried it again, still can't love it. I bottom out everytime , but it stops too sudden. I thought it still has some distance to reach the bottom, but it just stopped.

Actually, I wasn't being defensive of Topre. That's general advice for any new keyboard purchase. Use it for a week, then see how you feel about switching away from it. However you feel then lets you compare how you feel about your other keyboards in comparison.

And I honestly don't care if he likes it or not, it just seems like a waste to only try it for a few minutes.

thx for your suggestion. I bottom out everytime, but the short distance and quick ending make me feel uncomfortable.

You mentioned the short distance and quick ending twice now. But, the travel on them is about the same as on my Model M, and I didn't notice any abrupt stop, either.

But, strokes and folks, as they say. For me it's topre and bs, for you it's cherry brown. Personally, I thought cherry browns were too light and therefore harsh on bottom out, just as you describe the topres. This amuses me.

How about a trade for a Das Keyboard Silent Black with the Cherry Brown switches along with cash difference?  I've had the Das for about 3 weeks and really only used a little for  2 weeks.  I can still return it for a full refund but would trade it for yours and some cash if that works for you.
Current in order of preference:  RealForce 87U Silent White with variable weighted keys X 2, Filco Majestouch 2 Tenkeyless with Linear Reds, Filco Number-pad, Poker with Linear Reds

Sold or returned:  Multiple Microsoft and Logitech keyboards, Das Keyboard Silent, Cherry 6140, RealForce 103UB, RealForce 86U, Filco Majestouch 2 full sized with Linear Reds

I might just do that.  I'm waiting on an RMA right now from Das.  Once I have my refund and if yours is still available I'll back in touch.

Your white Realforce has the variable key switch weighting, correct?  I have the full Realforce in Black with the variable key weighting and really love it.

I have 3 boards right now - the Das, the Realforce and a Filco with Reds.  It's really funny how different strokes are for different folks.  I like the Realforce the best and use  it as my main board at work.  For home, I've been switching back and forth between the Das and the Filco and I'm not going to keep the Das.  I like the linear reds on the Filco much better than the browns on the Das.

I would imagine it will take around a week to return the Das and get my refund so keep me in mind if you still have the Realforce for sale in a week.
