Help choosing keyboard

Hey everyone, just joined today ^-^.  I was looking to buy my first mechanical keyboard.  I have a few problems though, I do not know if I want a blue cherry or a brown cherry; I do a good mix of typing and gaming.  In addition, can anyone point me in the right direction of some highly rated blue/ brown keyboards? Thanks!! :D

A Filco would be your best bet. Good track record, highly respected, well built board.

If you want the brown, wait for this to come back in stock.

The das keyboard is a great keyboard, so is the filco and the leopold, it really comes down to how much you want to spend and which style really catches your eye.

Gotchya, what are some good blue ones?  I have heard that blue is good for gaming and that it is "meh" for gaming, what is the real deal?

It mostly has to do with double tapping.  Some people don't like the blues when double tapping as much because the point at which they send the keystroke and reset is kinda far apart (compared to browns at least), so you have to let off the key more before pressing it again when double tapping.  You can see what I'm talking about in these graphs:





This bothers some people more than others, but overall I personally don't think it makes a big difference.  To me the choice comes down to the sound much more - if you want the clicky sound of the blues go with them, and if you don't then go with the browns (although you should know that the browns aren't quiet by any means either, they just don't have that extra clicky noise).

It's actually more of a personal preference thing.

My analogy of the day is worrying about Blue Cherry Hysteresis  while gaming is like the odds of getting Genital herpes.  It's very likely you will have the bug but most of the time you don't feel the symptoms.

And some people prefer BOTH tactile and audio feedback to make sure you have made the right move.  This last sentence wasn't part of the Genital herpes analogy.

Being an avid FPS player (CS) myself and using the Cherry MX Blues, I believe there is no issue with double tapping at all. It definitely is a "Blue Cherry Hysteresis".

The clicking does not really bother me as for in-game, I use a Audio-technica ATH-AD700 so I don't really hear the click all that much, just the clack.

My personal and little biased opinion is that the right midway between blacks and blues, are the clears.

Unluckily you can find them just on the deck legend and in some cherry boards.


IMHO Browns are nice but too similar to blacks (veeery light tactile feedback)

Either of those Filcos would be fine.  Buying a keyboard is like sex.  If you worry about Genital Herpes all the time you'd never do it.  Once you've started though you can't stop.
