Found keyboards
« on: Wed, 20 April 2011, 14:42:13 »
I was told by my friend that mechanical keyboards are far better than those crappy rubber dome ones. So i told him ok let me go to the Salvation Army, Savers, and on Craigslist and find some.

Yesterday i started and went 5 Salvation Army stores and found no mechanical boards. I then went to Savers (which just opened recently) and one keyboard was on the shelf. Took a look at it and pressed and a key and what you know, the thing clicked. Took the key off and it was a White Alps.

I was curious to know how much Savers was selling it, so I looked back and surprisingly it was on sale for $2.99. Picked it up and did some research on it at home and found out that the keyboard is a  Focus  fk-8000

Condition? Brand spanking new. It still has the plastic wrap around the wire and they keys look like it came out of the factory.

Then I checked on craigslist for any more mechanical Kb's and one guy was selling 7 keyboards for $10. I went and checked them out and two were mechanical, 5 were rubber dome ****.

Picked all up for $10 and i dont know what I will do with those two mechanical ones, they are extremely dirty, disgusting, words can't explain.

Here is the Focus fk-8000 (sorry the pictures were deleted accidentally)

Lets just say that you got a ridiculously good deal.

Similar Focus FK-5001s went for $50 on Ebay.

Now if those have blue Alps, it could be worth maybe $200.

Really nice keyboard, with perfect layout on the qwerty section, and the nice addition of the embedded calculator

So what where the other two you got? Even if you count them as $5 a piece, they're likely to be great deals too.

There are cleaning tips in the wiki, by the way.

Bleh, I hate you. All of my searching has only resulted in miserable failure.

The only ones I found were two terrible rubber domes.

Yea, the calculator works perfectly. The battery still had the plastic protective screen between the battery and terminal. I still haven't tried the actually keyboard yet since I don't have the AT to PS/2 adapter. It was supposed to come in today, but UPS rescheduled it for tomm 26th.

I have one white alps keyboard and one other keyboard that has a "space invaders" switch (NMB Keyboard). The white alps is a Chicony Keyboard and while i was dissembling the keys, i accidentally pulled the Numpad #6 key out wrong and broke the white alps switch. However, the rest of the switches and keys are absolutely perfect. The keyboard looks freaking new.

The other keyboard with the space invaders switch the NMB, has both ctrl keys missing and the minus (-) key missing. I will test them out and hopefully they work. I wanted to sell both of them to any one whose interested as I don't actually want them. Im sure the keys/switches will come in handy.

let me know, im from USA, so Ill do my best to ship it quick!

The far right the numpad 6 you can see is popped a bit out. I believe they sell switches on some website.. forgot the name.
