I'm afraid it's gone forever
« on: Thu, 21 April 2011, 22:18:38 »
My parents are moving and left a bunch of their stuff in my basement for a couple months. My mom came over today to clear out some of her old junk so she didn't have as much to move and accidentally threw away one of my black M13's. Well, we're not sure if she threw it away or if its misplaced but since there were two and she only thinks she saw one, I'm thinking the second is gone forever. Sadly the better of the two is the one that turned up missing. :(

Please consider it's an old toy.

It's time to stop crying and get a Unicomp toy instead.

Unicomp keyboards are a pale imitation. They don't have any full size keyboards with black keys. Crying is all I have left.

I figured my valuables were so mundane as to be immune to meddling.

Lol... That is why I don't tell anyone at work how much my keyboard cost.

And technically, you can get a black unicomp... Maybe not as clean looking, but possible:

See the comment in this article about getting black blank caps from unicomp: http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=Island:5649

Do it the SPARTAN way. Burn her house, beat her mothaaaaa!!!

Oh wai, that is your mother instead. Then it is time to ransom her 500 bucks for a new M13 or time for a new mother.

@ Human The keyboard seems to be in good order. It got a little bit of condensation on one corner but  it's not a problem.

@ ripster Considering It was a proper dumpster she dove into, it wasn't really a metaphor but I know what you mean, the statements were at odds with one another.

@ Voixdelion I know right? It makes me feel kind of bad for strangling her when I found out.

I am glad your mother was able to get your keyboard back. I am 100% sure, she was feeling very bad. As a father, I would feel very very bad too if I did something like this to my daughter.

Good point. I'll take her out to lunch tomorrow. She likes the bottomless chips at chili's, even if they tend to be over salted sometimes.

Once upon a time, there was a Selectric II or III in my Dad's office. My Mam decided that this was no longer needed, and gave it away.

Never quite forgave her for that.

She probably couldn't afford your massive habit. She was also building your character. I think it worked as you can now afford all the Legos you want.

What the HECK! Now she threw away half my collection of vintage polyester ties, and the dumpster just left 30 minutes ago.

I had two boxes of bad ties that I didn't want. We went through all the ties to find some to send to my brother. They had room in the dumpster for my bad ties so I threw them out. Then she took it upon herself to finish the job.

Damn, my mom threw away my T-BALL TROPHIES!!!!

I would've gotten some T-Ball trophies, if that damn tee hadn't struck me out every time. Sometimes it would pitch a perfect game. My dreams of representing the US in the Special Olympics were dashed by that thing.

This made think about one time when my brother was studying for an important exam. He had papers scattered all of the living room table and in his room. While he was away for a few hours, my mother thought it was a good idea to arrange all the papers. Needless to say that my brother was MAD, VERY MAD.

I throw away my kids stuff all the time.

Builds character.

You bet, guess what they are going to throw away once you get old enough?

Would my tie and keyboard collection be there along with the complete series of Doctor Who including the episodes from the first seasons that were reproduced from backup audio recordings and production stills? If so, I might thrive there.
