Monitor return
« on: Fri, 22 April 2011, 18:21:27 »
So I bought an HP Zr30w a few weeks ago and found out when I got it that I had a stuck green pixel right in the center of the monitor so I tried to unstuck it with the program online and giving it the pixel massage but nothing worked so I called HP and they are going to drop ship me a brand new one they say.

Kinda scares me though that they may send me a refurbished monitor, anybody have any knowledge of having something replaced by HP?  They say it will have a label to ship the other one out and that I should have it boxed up,  just scared that I will have to ship mine out before I even get to check this monitor.

Have not done this with an HP monitor, but have done it with Dell.  Swapped 3 monitors for my original, and kept the original through the first 2 swaps.  The bad news is that as long as there's no issue with the display their rules say you can't ***** about getting a refurb.  This means that scuffs on the bezel are allowed.

Dell makes fantastic monitors but when I bought this they didnt have a sale going and the non scaler really sold me on the hp, its a great monitor but the stuck pixel really bugs me.  I did have to tell them that I had 3 stuck pixels as they have policy that unless you have 3 or more stuck pixels they wont exchange it.  I also made absolutely sure with the girl on the phone that they are sending me a brand new monitor

Yeah, they're good with the new for new returns... Mine was a late warranty swap for a failed controller board.

Well got my replacement today, cant test anything out until I get home tonight.  They did send a BRAND new monitor though Manufactured date is March 2011 so im pretty happy now just got to make sure there is nothing wrong.  Also they sent me another set of Dual Link DVI and Displayport Cables, thinking about not sending any of the cables back at all or maybe just a single regular dvi cable.  Any suggestions lol

I see no reason to keep the replacement or get back on the phone as im dead tired from a long day and a bit depressed about a second stuck pixel monitor so I sent an email to the rep I was dealing with telling them im sending the replacement back, all I can do is see where it goes from here.

I will never buy such an expensive monitor if it doesn't have 0 pixel guarantee. I want perfect monitors since dead pixels are the most annoying thing when using computers.

Sorry to hear about that.  Both my zr24w monitors are w/o a stuck pixel.  I guess it's just possible with so many pixels on that particular model.  HP Support is pretty good about replacing stuff, though.  I blew a power adapter on an ond 8510p a few years ago and they sent me a new one without even asking for the old one back.

This has nothing to do with the HP. Those panels are all made by LG. A few pixel errors are considered to be normal and part of the manufacturing process. However you can always pay some extra to get a zero pixel guarantee.

I haven't even seen a stuck pixel in over 4 years. There is no excuse for them today. Samsung & Acer here...maybe I am just lucky.

Maybe in your bizzaro world this is ok for a $1300 product but not mine, also HP or anyone else for that matter does not offer an extra zero pixel guarantee(besides dell) and they did a fine job of fixing the mistakes (Some of the best customer service i have had, overnighted both replacements to me and payed for the return of the defective ones).  Also at the end of the day HP is putting LG panels into their monitors so in my eyes HP (the ones who recieved my money) are responsible.

Guessing 1080 TN panels?  The new 30inch high res panels have just a massive amount of pixels

I don't like this either, but these are the industry standards for a reason.

You are extremely lucky and you should be glad that HP replaced it for you, despite the fact they didn't have to.
It just proves what a great company they are.

Also note that the zero bright pixel policy of Dell only applies to bright/stuck pixels. I have two dead pixels on my Dell, and they refused to replace it.

Most of the time pixel errors occur during shipping.

I agree I wasnt very happy that the replacement showed up with another stuck pixel dead center but that probly has something to do with UPS playing soccer with the box or whatever they do with these during shipping but HP Customer service is just amazing at how helpful they were and going forward I wont hesitate for 1 second to buy HP products.
