Cheapest MX Brown keyboard in (Central) Europe
« on: Wed, 27 April 2011, 18:33:33 »
Hey guys! This is going to sound like a cheap plea for UTFG, but I tried and wasn't really succesful.

The story goes like this: I have a Cherry G80-3000 with Blues at home and it's great. But I'd like to go to school sometime (where I do research and the like) and have a decent keyboard there as well. After some considerations I've decided to go for a Cherry Brown keyboard (I haven't yet had one in my hands, but it's silent and yet still good for typing).

But alas, I wasn't able to find any cheap mechanical keyboard with Browns around. I know y'all love the Filco and thekeyboardco, but for me they are way too expensive. I really can't afford it now. I got the G80 for 60 Euro incl. shipping and if I could get a Brown one under 80, that would be great.

Any advice? Thanks.

I'm in Germany and got my hands on a Compaq from ebay for about 25 -30 EUR, can't remember. That may have been lucky though.

It that hadn't appeared I would have modded my Cherry blues. I think that gluing the key stem really would give a nice feeling. In fact I'll probably still try that at some point. And opening up a G80 is really easy - getting inside the switches is no problem.

Just bought my first Mechanical (Noppoo Mini Chuc) keyboard through myobook.net which buys the keyboard in China and ships it to you. They got the payment a bit over midnight (Their time) today so hope I have an answer in the morning that its recieved and that they ship soon. Else I might have been cheated, but I read on TeamLiquid that people used them so think they are ok.

It cost me 77Euro with shipping and they write a small value on it so you dont have to pay customs (if all goes well)

Also remember to say which color switches you want as the keyboard comes in black, blue and brown (black and blue might be cheaper)

And btw omg I am exited to replace my Logitech G15 rev 1 with cherry brown switches, hope they are as awesome as people say as I accually like my current keyboards typing, its just massive in size and uglyness.

If you want to convert a cherry blue to brown I have one hundred of brown (new) stems, to sell for a reasonably price.

http://www.zercom.eu/index.php?p=35&f=1&s=1&a=183326

Second letter =  A, P or U should mean black switches, ,<--- so should be your case

Second letter =  E, Q or V should mean clear switches

Second letter =  F, S or W should mean blue switches

Second letter =  K, or X should mean brown switches

Second letter =  Y should mean red switches

Second letter =  R should mean either brown or white switches

Cherry's naming is quite complicated... Still they don't make new MX Brown boards, atleast to my knowledge.
So I should add something useless here yes? Ok, ok...

I'd go for PLU 87 ( http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=8294902959 ) through taobao agent. It should cost pretty much exactly 80$. I ordered mine for 100 but bought 3 extra sets of keycaps.

The PLU has a neat layout. Maybe it's worth a shot. Are there different taobao agents? One would expect such a profitable venture would create competition... which one would you recommend, geekhack?
