Microsoft TBE tracks very weirdly at slow speeds- any ideas?
« on: Fri, 29 April 2011, 17:20:41 »
Hi Gang,

I just picked up a TBE in decent condition. The balls were worn, so I did the standard procedure to get them out and rotated to a non-flat area. The ball seems to be in ok shape. Once I got it all back together, I tried it out, and the ball does roll more smoothly now, but the pointer movement is ODD.

When moving the ball quickly, it responds pretty well, though the DPI seems significantly lower than my Logitech Marble (drat). When I get down to a slower speed, however, the pointer suddenly slows to a crawl, and it takes considerable ball movement to go just a few pixels.

Could I have mis-aligned something when I disassembled the unit? Does this seem like a component problem? Am I screwed?

It sucks, I love the shape of this thing.

I'm on Mac, with the newest Microsoft drivers for the TBE (this same thing occurred, more or less, when using the standard Mac mouse drivers).

Sorry all, false alarm. Another restart, and the problem went away. Very strange! Rip, I'll do the DPI test a little later today.

Yeah hard to say since they encompassed a lot of mice with the intellieye brand.

From this guy's repair/cleaning videos.

Maybe that should help.

Thanks, I'd like to add this one to the database.

Nobody on the internet seems to know the DPI but 800 sounds wrong.

That trackball is of legend.  I have never used one, but check this out and this.

I have one that is still new in the box. I don't see the letters DPI on the back of the box, but it says that it can track the ball at 1,500 times per second.
