Wanting a Cherry MX Black board - but which brand???
« on: Tue, 03 May 2011, 14:49:57 »
Hey all,

I currently own a Filco Brown 104 key and a Filco Blue Tenkeyless and I love them both - I wish I could use the Blue board more often but it seems to drive everyone crazy. >.<

Needless to say, I've been doing some research, and I'm wanting to try a Cherry Black.  I typically use the Browns a lot for gaming and typing - they feel very good but sometimes I can't get over how light they feel.  This is not a concern at all for typing but I sometimes find myself mis-hotkeying in SC2 with my constant spamming and it throws me off of my game a little.  I'm coming from using many scissor switch boards that generally require some more additional force.  Maybe it's because I haven't given them long enough but I almost want to bring another board into my rotation...which is most likely the result of my unhealthy addiction. :P

Regarding the Cherry Blacks, which board should I pick?  I've been eyeing the SteelSeries 6GV2, which has the media keys and such and I've heard great things.  The enter and back-slash key layout is kind of a turn-off but small sacrifice.  On the other hand is the Filco, which I know and trust but it a bit more expensive on Amazon.

Which brand would you recommend?  Is there any difference in the key feel and sound between the Filco and SteelSeries?  Thanks all!

For black keys, Steelseries do a good job on it too. 6GV2 is used by many SC2 pro gamers and even CS. Filco has its brand name, and you get this like "pride" of being a Filco owner, but as for gaming, it doesn't really matter I think. (I play lots of SC2 too). Filco Brown is used by most Korean SC2 progamers like fruit dealer. 6Gv2 is more used by foreign progamers like Jinro. I don't think you will go wrong with Steelseries.
