Matching colors in your desk! :D

We have the same keyboard and M570 :peace:

I read from Keyboardlover that this monitors are better than the new 2211h ( Could be wrong) for gaming. I'm planning on getting 2 monitors but thinking about 2311h or maybe 2211h. I actually don't like at all the 16:9 aspect ratio that we're seeing these days but 16:10 right now increase the prices too much I think.

I'm using right now a Samsung 2233rz 120hz but want some serious business monitors with great image quality.

Avoid the 2211h. The 2311h is the best bang for the buck.
It handles 75hz, and has only 10 ms of input lag, and it only consumes 24W after calibration.
The picture quality is awesome.

I really need to build swiveling shelves for those speakers. Woul free up a lot of space. And surprisingly enough getting a second monitor freed up some space too. Now I am using all the wasted space near the back.

Do optical trackballs really suck that bad? I bought a cordless optical trackman and its incredibly jittery and I can't flick the ball to move across the screen, it just stays in one spot. I called logitech and the guy said it had a problem and sent me a new one. The new one is just as bad... So I'm guessing the trackball just sucks.

I think Dell announced recently that they are switching all Ultrasharp monitors to 16:9 so get em now while you can, should probably be some good sales soon though, the U2311h is already 16:9 right.

Yep. 16:9 is the future.
For instance SC2 optimized for 16:9.

16:10 or death. I wouldn't pay up good money to get less resolution...all right, I may be able to accept 2560x1440, but **** 1920x1080 with a very rusty power drill made of snakes!

Fortunately, I've found a promising 24" 1920x1200 PVA monitor I could get for $235 shipped. (I would prefer IPS, but as long as the viewing angles aren't TN atrocious, I should be fine.) Unfortunately, I don't have the money yet and probably won't until a prospective customer gets enough paychecks in to buy my E-295C.

Huh? what? How is SC2 optimized for 16:9? Just because it shows slightly more stuff on both sides? I play SC2 on both 16:10 and 4:3. Playing on 4:3 doesn't make me lose more games than on 16:10. I can actually get a better look at mini map on 4:3 than on wide screens.

Exactly. I've been using 1200-line monitors for 20 years; no way I'd settle for less today.

Using TV displays for computer output is an idea that should have died with the Commodore 64.

Still, for being 16:9, the Dell 2311h is a nice monitor. There are not many others around that offer

- ips
- wall mounting
- adjustable heigth
- greater tilt
- pivot
- a 'good' foot/stand

and that for a reasonable price.

But as usual, it all comes down to preference.

Don't feel the need for a second one though, I only do gaming/movies on this machine anyway.

Agreed, because apparently 16:9 is the falsely perceived future that we should all be in.

I bought 2xU2311Hs, thinking that I would be able to use 1 in portrait and 1 in landscape.
After about 2 weeks, I sold them off and got myself a U2410.

16:10 nirvana!

There seems to be a lot of love around here for the Dell IPS monitors...how do they stack up against the competition? I've got two middle of the road Viewsonics on my desk right now, but I'll be selling my whole rig soon. For my next rig I want everything top of the line - and that includes monitors. Are the Dells as good as the Asus/LG/NEC/Samsung offerings? Price won't be an issue, I just want the best quality. I was thinking of just getting the Apple cinema display as they have a really good rep and I use one at work almost every day and love it, but my current rig has 2 23" monitors and this is really the sweet spot (maybe a 3rd 23" to even things out).

EDIT: And 16:10 is fantastic. I wish they'd keep offering 16:10 IPS monitors as the 16:9's I'm working on right now just annoy me with their elongatedness (I like making new words)
Keyboards: Filco Majestouch-2 87key Browns - Realforce 103UB 55g - Compaq MX11800 (ghetto clears + doubleshots)

Dell does in fact offer a few quality product lines out of their piles of junks. As a rule of thumb for Dell's LCD monitors, look for their panel type, those with IPS or VA panels usually appear on their good quality LCD models. Generally those models would have pretty good reviews and are great for budget minded professionals who are looking for decently priced LCD with good color accuracy. HP also offer some respectful LCDs. Look for their Performance Monitors under Small business (they still offer 16:10 models). Are they as good as the brands you mentioned? They are definitely much better than Asus or Acer. As for Samsung and LG, they are actually the panel manufacturers for LCD OEMs like Apple, Dell, HP, Etc. However, I haven't really seen professional oriented models from them. NEC I am not too sure. My impression is that NEC's good models are pricy.

As far as the monitor OP mentioned. It is highly praised mainly because of the low price line. Especially people were able to get them for as low as $198 by calling Dell small business (or live chat) to ask for discounts, when most IPS monitors available were in the price range of $500+ (don't think there were any 22" IPS LCDs either).  That's how I got mine. Keep in mind tho the low price of 2209WA is because of the fact that it uses the so called e-IPS which is an economical version of IPS, but I don't know the technical differences. It seems they found an alternative manufacturing process to make it cheaper.
