Different keyboard tech from Apple revealed in patent
« on: Sat, 14 May 2011, 13:56:01 »
Patent filed in Nov 2009, made public a few days ago.  Using compressed air to provide tactile feedback, looks like it's meant for a chicklet style board that's meant to be small to start with.  Who knows if it'll ever happen, seems overly complicated to me.  Ripster, how's that AAPL stock doing?
Currently GMMK Pro: lubed 68g U4T, FR4 plate, extra gaskets, etc

It makes you wonder what happens to all the keyboard crumbs. Do they get lodged in the air holes and ruin the tactile feedback, or shoot out at you like some tiny BB gun?

I'd rather have some key travel than a pneumatic chiclet keyboard.  Best (?) of both worlds, buy a Topre and charge the dome vents with compressed air.  I'd recommend safety glasses though.

I never liked apple, but that sounds like a brilliant idea. Finally, they have something unique to offer. This might be really cool if t works, but it doesn't sound very economical.
Notable Switches I have tried:
black cherry, blue cherry, brown cherry, clear cherry, cherry M84, white alps, black alps, cream alps, Monterey blue alps, Fujitsu Peerless, Gateway2000 rubber dome, Keytronic rubber dome, Model M buckling spring, Model F buckling spring, futaba, black space invader

I like the sense of humour on this board :)

A pneumatic switch sounds neat, I hope they make a keyboard with it. Too bad it's an Apple patent.
