1988 Dolch Luggable - Complete
« on: Mon, 16 May 2011, 13:01:12 »
I'm not sure if this is the correct  forum to post this, but if not perhaps the Mods can move it to one more appropriate.

I have a 1988 (or 89) Dolch Luggable with all the options including orange plasma screen and hard drive, in its original box. I even have my receipt -- it cost about $9800 at the time.

I don't have a clue what it's worth, if anything, and was hoping someone/s here could help me with this, or find a place to appraise it.

Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to give me...

Lisa

Hi, welcome. Being a plasma screened Dolch, I'm guessing the computer itself wouldn't be worth much to people here. Post a picture if you can.

You can probably get about $65 for the keyboard if you part it out. IIRC That's the amount for which I've sold Dolch with Cherry blues.
I trolled Geekhack and all I got was an eponymous SPOS.

Hah. That could be a gamble.
I think that the right thing is to put it for sale on eBay and post about it here so that the right people see it. :-)

I have seen just the keyboard (PAC-60 with PS/2 cable) go for around $100 on eBay. I got my Dolch keyboards (both of them) for much less than that, and the last one I saw on eBay had a starting bid at 1 Euro and did not get a single bid (because I was stupid and greedy and wanted not to bid until the last minute, but forgot about it when it was time, that's why ...)

Yes it was. It sounded like he was looking for a specific part to fix his though, and not another whole thing.

wasn't aware Dolch had made any 286 models (the off-the-shelf chassis they used for their systems was used for several 286 luggables, but none I know of were branded Dolch).

FWIW I played with a Dolch-branded 286 luggable this afternoon at http://www.halted.com. They keyboard was either Cherry ML or non-Cherry, had a RJ11 style cable, and it didn't seem to connect electrically to the CPU unit ("no keyboard attached" when it was), so I didn't even ask how much they wanted. Other than it didn't work, the machine was in pristine condition, including the carry bag.
