I lurked around these forums for a few weeks before getting a new Das Model S Ultimate Keyboard. So far I love the feeling of typing on this thing. The question I have is: Is it normal for the spacebar to have a different sound than the rest of the keys? It almost sounds higher pitched or something. Thank you!

Many mechanical boards also use a different switch for the space bar; either a heavier variant of the usual switch or a stiff linear switch. Not sure that the Model S does that, though.
Current collection: HHKB Pro 2 black on black, HHKB Pro 2 white/grey blank, [strike]Dell AT101W[/strike] (sold to SirClickAlot), 1992 Model M, Key Tronic Ergoforce KT 2001, BTC 5100 C. Dead boards: MS Natural Elite, MS Natural 4000.

Welcome to Geekhack.

Yes, as far as sound tests goes, all of the ones I've heard, the space bar sounds different than the other keys, mostly, all the bigger than normal keys do sound little different.

All the keys on both my filco and das keyboard have slightly different sounds, based on the key size and where they are on the keyboard. It's perfectly normal.

I wonder if the CIA can reverse-engineer what you're typing if they have an audio recording of your typing.

Every key has its distinct sound, and you can pretty know what someone type only by hearing the sound.

This is an example.

If you record your typing and play it backwards you can hear it say HAIL SATAN.

Anyway, after using the keyboards so many years, you've got to listen to what keyboards want to share. They have feelings too.

Keyboards don't have feelings. They're like poor people.

Tony,

That video is awesome, lol. That guy really looks like he has some issues with his fingers though, more like abusing that finger cracking. I bet in 10 years he will suffer from arthritis ;(

I crack my fingers all the time and my fingers are normal. That's a myth.
