Ps/2

Hey.  I'm hoping to buy my first mech keyboard soon, and I'll likely be getting a Leopold from EK.  So, I noticed it has PS/2 and USB, and I was wondering if there is a way to check for PS/2 ports. (I know I have USB).  I googled it and looked at pics, then checked my PC, and it doesn't look like I have PS/2 ports.  So, is there something i'm missing, and if not, is there some kind of adapter to take advantage of PS/2 even if I don't have the ports?

Thanks!

I think he's asking if there's a way to use the PS/2 protocol if he doesn't even have the port on his computer.

I would say no. No, you can't do that.

Ok, thanks.  I just read in the Mechanical Keyboard Guide at OCN that PS/2 is better in general, so what would you guys say?  I'm guessing USB is just fine, too. so is there a major advantage to ps/2 or does usb work fine for you geekhackers?

Generalization is commonly used as a substitute for knowledge. The only advantage would be NKRO but that is also possible trough USB with certain controllers, so...

Unless you have some specific reason to use PS/2, don't bother. Most new motherboards either don't come with a PS/2 port, or come with one that doesn't adhere to the PS/2 specs(that's the list Ripster is compiling). Leopold boards can achieve 18KRO on USB, so that will work just fine for people with fewer then 18 fingers.

Because my posts are mostly concise they may appear a bit condescending and flat out unfriendly, but they are not meant to be :)
Well, most of the time at least!

Also, there is some irony in my post.

Yeah, only benefit to PS/2 usually is NKRO (can press every button on the keyboard at the same time and it'll register). Some keyboards through USB can only achieve 2KRO which could hurt during gaming. Most higher quality mechanical boards or gaming boards achieve 6KRO through USB. Leopold advertises 6KRO but Ripster found out that it actually has 18KRO through USB which is probably way more than anyone needs honestly. Great thing too is that usually keyboards with over 6KRO over USB don't work on Macs but my Leopold works fine on my Macs at work.

Thanks everyone!  Especially to ripster for finding 18KRO on this board, so my only worries are aliens wanting to borrow my keyboard...

I wasn't the first to find out the keyboard was 18KRO. IIRC Kalyrh was.

I just say it all the time at OCN to annoy the Mods trying to sell the OCN Ducky keyboard.

Ok, well thanks to him/her then, and still thanks to you for replies (it seems from reading threads that you spend most of your life on this forum =)
