IBM Model M Badges - Black on Gold
« on: Thu, 26 May 2011, 09:57:11 »
I have ordered new badges for IBM Model M

(10) oval or pill-shaped IBM brand logo for 1391401 and others; 25mm x 18mm; black text on polished gold background with clear "dome"

(10) LED cluster badge; 78mm x 23mm; gold border and text with black boxes with clear "dome"; the text is not standard (see below).

I also ordered full-page blank gold sheats and I will print out your birth certificate to-order. Please specify text, fonts, and layout (see layout examples at http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=Island:18174 ).  I'll send you a PDF for your approval before I print.

Each label will be about $3 each - i'm still waiting on exact cost.
I ship with a cardboard insert for added protection.

If you have a special request for any color/style combination (and are willing to order at least 10), i'll help you by providing my existing templates so you can order direct from the company.

im very happy with the preliminary badges. Do you think it would be possible to get a bushed aluminium metal sticker modeled after the 1390131 badge?

Will definitely take 1 or 2 of the domed stickers.

sealcouch, i did a google search and found a vector graphic here:
http://aornish.deviantart.com/art/Aperture-Science-Vector-Logo-76503583
vector graphics will scale better than bitmaps. use Inkscape (free/open source) to edit the design.

Ascaii, i will do the design, but i don't have any of this model board. would you measure the badge - i suspect it will be 25mm square, but might be 25.4mm. also, if memory serves me ... is this badge actually cut aluminum?
the vendor i have used to make badges has a "brushed silver" that would look similar, but would not be an exact match. another vendor might be able to do these on actual brushed aluminum.

Let's make it real easy and just say $3 a badge. shipping runs about $.50 to the US, $1 to Europe.

If you want a Birth Cert, please let me know what text you want on it. if you want it to look like your existing BC, put your board on a scanner or send me an example. If you want to add a "Restored" or "Mods By" line, please state that. If you want your signature, i'll need a scan of that too. I'll email you proofs before i print.

Sorry, but i'm not set up for bitcoin.

Ascaii, i sent proofs.

my original birth certificate design was based on the US label and contained two North America standards association emblems. for those with a "made in UK" board, i am working on two new examples - one a copy of the UK layout and one that is based on the UK layout but including some elements of the US layout. will post a picture here soon.

it would be helpful if someone could tell me what text and format the UK bar-code uses.

Thanks

Just read this. I run a mini group buy of Unicomp stuff and they say they don't want to sell IBM logos anymore. Where did you get these gold ones and is it possible to get them silver on black in the correct size of the 101 key Model M? Or even better:

Silver background and black upright text as on the old 1980s Model Fs an early Ms?

The front badges I only have in black and gold - see below. These i had made with a minimum order of 10 - so i have extras. i'm selling them at cost $3 each.

The birth certificate i am making myself as each one is different. you show me a picture (or provide details) of your birth certificate and i send you a "proof" for you to OK - then i print it the way you approved. you can add extra lines like "modified 07-Jul-11 by " if you want (but i would need a scan of your signature).

At the moment, i only have metalic gold stock for birth certificates, but i can get silver no problem.

I only mean the IBM logos. Is it possible for the manufacturer to do them in silver with black text, without that transparent stuff on top of it, like the old logos on model Fs?

ps: I would take at least 25 or more if the per IBM lable price would be lower than $3.

i origionally got them without the transparent dome. but they were MUCH thinner than IBM stock badges. for something exactly like the origional you will need to order from here:
http://www.plaquemaker.com/Plates/Metal_Name_Tags.html

they would normally run $7 (16-30) each but are currently running a "special" 10 tags for $40 or 33 tags for $99

i would be happy to do the art work for you if you want to do that.

Right - i'll start working on the artwork for the square logo with and without the "Personal Computer" lines. But i must admit that i don't have any examples.

Anyone out there with a old Model M and F and a caliper care to measure for me? i need the badge, font, and border measurements.

Thanks

WCASS, do you have a vector file for the IBM label logo that I could send to http://www.plaquemaker.com to make a few of these labels?

Thanks.

If they turn out good, I'd be interested. Just don't like the glossy ones of the OP.

I would like to make it as authentic as possible.  Let me contact one of the shops.  wcass, if you have the graphics file and the dimension + the IBM logo angle degree, that would be great.  Thanks.

I'd be interested in that... I pulled mine off when I was going to paint the casing and lost my original stickers. Would be nice to get some plain black ones with maybe a dark gray text. (No text needed for the LED's)

i used Delta Cad to do the drawings - it's vector, but not a common format.
i tried Inkscape, but when that was opened with Adobe Illustrator, it does not look the same as it does in Inkscape (scale of elements is jumbled). What has worked so far is to-scale bitmaps @ 1200dpi.

7bit, to be clear, which badge are we talking about - the oval or the square?

I sent a quote request to namethatcomputer.com today.  If they reply back, I will let you know.  wcass, if you are going to order more logo labels that are closer to the original in any or all the official color combinations, then I will just buy a few from you.  Maybe 7bit can also add to the order for his group buy.  Thanks.

Sorry for writting in this old thread, but I was looking for ways to make an oval black bladge with silver IBM letters and I found that thread.

Finally I came with a doubt, are the IBM letters painted in relief in the black badge?
If so it would be a good idea to make a mold and resin, with silver paint or double shoot, don't you think?

my IBM letters are not raised, but printed. to get raised letters one would need to cast as you suggested. but i don't have anything other than graphics.

but i do have a friend with a 3d printer.

After I wrote that post I thought the same about using a 3d printer, but after a while of thinking on the subject I realized that the print resolution is usually quite low in most 3D printers unless you use a high quality professional machine.

I think would be more easy take the mold idea, unless that someone in the forum has access to a profesional quality 3d printer, in that case making a 3d model and printing it, would be a lot easier.
