Help me pick a PCB mounted keyboard
« on: Fri, 27 May 2011, 17:36:21 »
I bought a Das Ultimate Silent less than 2 weeks ago but I'm sending it back. I decided that I could really benefit from a tenkeyless design for gaming. I absolutely love the browns on this Das so I decided to get a Leopold Otaku with browns to replace it.

So far I've been looking at a few different boards:

G80-3000 with blues on ProVantage

I really have no use for a trackpad but I do want a numpad on this second board. It will mainly be used when I am doing ebay listings, projects, etc. Anything where I will be doing a large amount of typing or data entry.

I initially thought that blues would be the best for what I will be doing but at the same time I really want to try out clears with Black/Brown springs (thus my want for a PCB board). NKRO would be nice but no absolutely needed. The NKRO on the MX8100 is probably the only reason I'm really thinking about that board.

Are the any other good boards out there I should be looking at? I wanna keep it under $100 and preferably under $75 since this is my backup keyboard.

Thanks in advance.

LoL you contradict yourself or are you talking about getting a 2th keyboard.

First you returned the Das cause you thought that tenkeyless would be nice for gaming, and ordered a Leopold, and then you talk about wanting a numpad xD

Sorry if I got it wrong, then the question is for a second keyboard for other uses than gaming?

Yes, the Leopold i ordered will be my gaming keyboard. This thread is about choosing a 2nd keyboard that will rarely or never used for gaming.

Pick up the G80 from provantage. They have the same springs as browns and reds so if you really wanted to later on down the road you could swap the stems with clears from a cheap used board. Once you type on it I doubt that you will want to change it though. I'm really liking this board so far.

I've kinda narrowed it to a G80-3000 or an 11900.

There are some G80-11900s with doubleshots and mx clears for $65 shipped on ebay but they are the GB layout. Not sure if I wanna deal with that.

I'm even contemplating whether ill ever use the numpad. Maybe I should pick up a ML87 since they seem pretty good for the price.

I would kill for a black G80-1800 but they seem impossible to find.

I grabbed one of these:

G80-11900HRMUS-2

Based on the picture and the fact that this isn't a POS keyboard, they are probably in pretty good shape.

I hope you realize those don't have clear switches. They have blacks, actually.

Yeah, it sucks. I ordered a couple of the MX8100s with clears for parts though.

There are some 11900s with doubleshots and clears for like $65 but they are the GB layout. That small little left shift would drive me nutty.

He accepted $40 shipped which isn't too bad for a compact keyboard with doubleshots.
