Filco vs Leopold

It seems to be the consensus that Filco keyboards are slightly better than Leopold.

I wanted to hear from people who have both whether or not the difference is significant.

I have Leopold Keyboards and I was wondering if it's worth ponying up the money for Filco Keyboards.

It was very significant to me. I sold my Leopold and replaced it with another Filco (I have 3 now). With Leos going for $109 the price difference is so small (what, $20-30?) that I don't see any reason for getting a Leo unless you need one of its features (removable cable, Otaku browns).

That's good to know, actually. I'm pretty much sold on Filco's quality, but I had some niggling doubts about the Leopolds. I think I'm gonna try to mod my Tenkeyless to have a mini-usb port. If I do, pics and wiki post will follow

i don't actually own a filco, but i have used one enough to form an opinion. as i said earlier today, they are very samey to me. build quality, feel very similar i think. i think the leopolds keycaps have a 'softer' feel to them though. there were other reasons i chose the leopold rather than price. i like the rounder body, in key indicators, cable channel. if those are features you don't like go for the filco. or maybe hunt down a filco zero for something thats not so same same.

After you factor in shipping the filco is only about $20 more expensive.

I'm not super fond of the indicators built into the keycaps.

I have both, both with brown switches. I think the Filco is clearly better, and can't be easily disputed. I wouldn't say the Filco is leaps and bounds better, but it's definitely better built and just feels better to me than the Leopold. It's also more quiet.
If you have the choice definitely go with the Filco, but I think you'd be happy with the Leopold too - it's still really good!

If you need only one keyboard, then Filco is the best choice.

If you tend to be a collector, then any keyboard would be fine. You can buy a Filco later, when it is discounted cheaper or from other users' classifieds.
