Need help with a razer blackwidow ultimate
« on: Mon, 06 June 2011, 18:07:54 »
hello, i need help to fix my keyboard and my friend suggested this forum
sorry for bad english i'll try to explain as clear as i can
i owned a razer blackwidow and after three days the left control wasn't clicky anymore and it also stopped working afterwards so i did rma and got a new one.
now after about one month it happened again but to the "one" button, and since i already used rma i won't be able to do it again on the same item T_T
i would be very glad if someone could tell me if and how i can remove the keyswitch of that button and replace it with a new switch, like one taken off from the numpad since i never use those keys
(there
thanks in advance

Of course you can do an RMA again! It is not working as intended, and Razer has to assure, that it works for 2 years. At least at our place. Do a RMA again or tell them they f***ed it up and you want your money back!

edit: that is what rma is made for!!!!!111

If you don't have a keypuller, what I've used is two plastic cards, like bank cards or credit cards.
Using the corners, stick them down in the space between the key you want to pull off, and then use the leverage provided by the cards to pop the key off.

However, if the key itself isn't clicking, then you're best bet is to RMA the board. Razer's awesome about faulty products (I once complained about a squeaky Death Adder mouse wheel, and they sent me two new ones).

Too bad, I think you should learn to live with that. The switch exchage is very delicate and require a lot of technique and dexterity even with the right tools.

Razer keyboards earn bad reputation around this forum. Their mice are excellent however.

I thought to myself the same you did, and was the reason why I ended up getting a full layout than a tenkeyless. If a switch ever fails or dies, for complicate it is, I would swap em for one on the keypad, since having to RMA my keyboard is not an option(I live far from any place I could RMA it[USA])

I sincerely would love to try the razer black widow, since I love razer mouses, I wonder how close to their mice quality are their keyboard

After 6 months with my Naga, I'm having problems with the left click, it auto clicks a second time randomly when I left click normally. I wonder if its the mouse or a virus or something. Happened me before with a non razer mouse after installing office or some add-on to it :S

Since you started with a Filco Linear R, I fear the BW would be a let down in quality for you. You got a bad ass board there :)

If they denied his RMA and since you both live in Italy. Maybe you can PM each other.
With your known mad skills, you can offer to fix his board in a blink of an eye.

They not denied RMA, they wanted international shipment from my own pocket, which is more or less the same thing, which cost 32 euro at least.

I live near Turin, but I have home in Sicily too, so too north or too south from Naples.

Hahaha thanks daerid, thats truth, but my ears ask me to get a clicky board, I'm really liking it... I don't care that much about the tactile bump. The real problem is, I would love to use it on my office, and I bet the dev team I have near me will like me "clicking" a lot lol.

I'm also digging the DAS Ultimate with blues or browns a lot, but that one is too big for being carried around between home and office, so one would have to remain there... sigh :( either that or I get a bigger backpack or a car xD

I have a Das Ultimate with Blues. If you like clicky boards, it'd be a good choice. Of course you could also get another Filco.

Ok I fixed the problem, this is totally unhortodox but worked. I just poured some alcohol into the switches and let it evaporate for a couple hours

Not a lot unorthodoox, a wet deoxy spray is better than alcohol but alcol does the job too.

So what causes blue switches to loose their clickeyness ? I thought they were supposed to be reliable for millions of keystrokes!
Kinesis Contoured Advantage & Advantage2 LF with Cherry MX Red switches / Extra keys mod / O-ring dampening mod / Dvorak layout. ErgoDox with buzzer and LED mod.
Also: Kinesis Advantage Classic, Kinesis Advantage2, Data911 TG3, Fingerworks Touchstream LP, IBM SSK (Buckling spring), Goldtouch GTU-0077 keyboard

It's the result of fanbois fapping about how awesome Razer is.
