Got my Choc Mini with Browns
« on: Sat, 11 June 2011, 17:22:32 »
Just got the Noppoo Choc Mini with Brown switches that I ordered through myobook.

I am really liking how the keyboard feels.  The switches feel a little smoother than the MX Brown from my Filco MJ2.  They also feel a little more cushier.  It feels like the Filco MJ2 has a little bit more snappiness.  I actually like how the Choc Mini feels over the Filco MJ2.

I also love the feel of the POM keys, which I knew I would because I have dealt with the material when I was into watercooling.  They have a nice texture on them and a nice solid heavy feel to them as well.  The fonts are printed nicely and are very easy to see, they don't look faded.

Now I am on a mission to find some POM keycaps for my Filco.  I was thinking of ordering a PLU ml-87 and using the keycaps off of that but if there is a cheaper alternative I would rather go with that.

The layout of the Choc Mini is also pretty good, it has everything except the menu key which I actually use often, but no big deal.

The Choc Mini looks pretty good.  It has a nice size and it feels solidly built.

Now I have to decide whether I should keep it or sell it.  I don't like having too many things around and don't want two keyboards with the same switch even though they feel different.  I also have a Filco tenkeyless with Red switches coming in.

If you have a good source for POM keycaps please post if not I will have to order the PLU.

Hi,

can you please tell me if the key lettering is still pale like on many PR images, or if this is the new revision with golden lettering?
And maybe you can tell how much did it cost? (via PM?) (full price, management fee, etc)

I'd also like to hear your opinion on the Filco red tenkeyless.

I know POM, too. I also have watercooling block of POM/Delrin.

PBT keys would be another option for you, aren't they?

The lettering looks real good unlike the pictures I have seen in the past.  It is solid like gold.  The pictures I have seen look like it is just an outline.  I am really liking this keyboard.

As for the PBT I don't think it could compare.  I think I will just order a PU ML-87 and switch the keys with the Filco.

I will get some pics up of my board tomorrow so you can see the keys.

Oh yeah, I got it for $112 shipped from obook.com, great service and fast replies, but I think taobaobee.com charges a cheaper commission. You could also get it off ebay for the same price after shipping -> link

I recently received my choc mini from oBook also and everything went smoothly.  It took about a week to ship from China to my doorstep.  The only issue I have is that one of the feet is missing.  Luckily I use the legs so I only need 2 of them.  The lettering is gold on mine also.

I have to agree the browns on the noppoo choco mini feels almost like black switches. I don't know why, I suspect they're using fake brown switches or something. :P

I tried the blacks on the steelseries and the blues on the blackwidow and much prefer the browns.

Really? Blacks? Blacks are really stiff compared to browns.
Are the browns stiff or linear?

What do you mean?

AFAIK, the feeling of the Browns varies depending on the keycaps, board construction and others. On the only Brown board I've tried, they felt practically linear.
