a few shots on G80-8113 from ebay

just pick up the box from apartment office and take a few shots. i paid $22 total for this clear switch board. it is not in bad shape, though the painting evidence is clear and there is some smell.

track pad is not bad to me, though i never use the track pad...the card swipe is extra fun. the touch feel of clear is kinda heavier browns to me. the space feels different from other keys which makes me bet it is not clear on space. i will check it later.

The space bar is a Grey switch. Identical keystem compared to a clear(as far as I can tell), but with a heavier spring.

Hey, did your relegendable keycaps (top row and similar) come without the clear tops on them, or did you take them off?

I got one too. The springs are a little heavier than browns but not too much. But the tactile feels just like browns. Or are my switches all worn out? I can't tell since this is my first Cherry Clear board. I'm planning on getting a Deck Frost to see what a proper clear switch feels like.

Thanks for the pictures. I have a couple coming in.  Are the keycaps in okay shape?  Everyone wants the 2shots, but the laser keys don't look too bad either.  How thick is the keycap sidewall?

Probably cruddy as hell. Mine was anyhow. On the outside it was just fine, but inside it looked like it had been used as a dryer vent. There where soft switches with lint in them, scratchy ones with dirt in them and everything between. Pop 'em open and see what they look like inside.

Those boards seem to be hit-or-miss.  Mine wasn't stinky and I haven't noticed any cruddy switches in the 7 weeks I've been using it.  YMMV.

POS boards with clears are deceiving. They are usually either very worn or dirty or BOTH, and the 8XXX series PCBs are inherently very flexy. I'm betting that the difference compared to a tactile Deck would be night and day.

The PCB is one thing, the case is another.  I can grab one corner of mine and lift up a bit before any other part of the board moves.  For the price, hard to beat!

they are lasered keycaps right?  Are they PBT or ABS or something else?

Lasered PBT.  The cases had yellowed from UV exposure because they're ABS plastic, but the PBT keys were unaffected.

Cool.  Lasered PBT can't be too bad, I guess?  They should be pretty durable, lower wear rate than double shots.

PBT is better for wear than ABS.  The only key on my G80-8113 that has any shininess is the enter key, and it's not much at that.  Since lasered white keys don't need infill, there's no paint to wear out or feel scratchy either.

Yeah I didn't see any shininess on mine either.

I bought two, but I didn't bother to open the second one figuring it was as good as the first.
