Learning to type.
« on: Thu, 16 June 2011, 23:54:37 »
Seeing as this is a keyboard forum I guessed that probably everyone who would be bothered signing up on here has learned to touch type at some point in the past. When I was learning typing I learned on http://www.typingweb.com ,but now as I may have mentioned I am starting to learn Korean and I would also like to learn how to touch type the Hangul characters. I'm not particularly looking for great speed, but I don't want to go back to looking at the keys and typing 5 words a minute when I begin to have a need for typing in Korean. So I would like to know if anyone knows of any typing tutor programs or websites out there that offer lessons for typing in Korean. I think it would also be great help to use it while learning because I can practice reading the characters while typing them. If I can't find anything I'm just going to have to adopt a brute force method and just memorize where each character is because I'm atleast already used to touch typing in English.

Hi, I'm kind of in the same boat with you. I'm learning Korean and I know that if I can learn how to touch type, my korean learning will go much faster!

Since there wasn't anything very good out there, I built an HTML5 application. http://www.hangultypeattack.com/

I hope it helps! :)

Unfortunately, my normal suggestion only supports English.

Oh, thanks! :D I had just gone and bruteforce memorized the key layout, but this will be great practice for increasing my speed.

EDIT: It works quite nicely for just drilling keys, but maybe the interface could be improved upon slightly and a sound added for when you make an error. (I understand interface designing is hard and not everyone can do amazing artwork. I myself am included in those less skilled in art, but even just having some css effects on the mouse over of the keys like underlining the text when the mouse moves over doesn't require any new graphic work)
