IBM Buckling Spring Question
« on: Mon, 20 June 2011, 11:41:10 »
Hi all,
I have been researching keyboards since I discovered Geekhack, and have been looking at Model M's recently.  I have come across specs for keyboards, such as Cherry MX switches being rated at 50million operations.  So, does anyone know how many operations an IBM buckling spring switch is rated at?  It's not in the wiki *accusing glare at ripster* and many reviewers say they've had their Model M for 20 years.  With a keyboard that lasts this long, do the switches ever wear out?  And if so, after how many operations?

Thanks!

Most of it is the reliable buckling spring.  You can get replacement parts so easy from unicomp, donor boards, fellow GHers.

OK, thanks; I found it at Deskthority.net.  IBM membrane buckling spring has 25million actuations, and capacitive buckling spring has 100 million actuations =).  But Model Fs seem to be a lot more rare.
