New to fourm and need some help .
« on: Sat, 25 June 2011, 14:38:35 »
hey everyone . love the fourm , had to join ! All very supportive and i am  looking over a lot of helpful info so i was going to see if i could reach out for a little of my own help .

recently sold my razer bw (realized how much i hate razer after it was tooo late ).

anywho , I am looking for a new mechanical board . dont want to spend more than $150 , It must have mx blue switches, also wanting a theater effect on keys (raised rows ) . loved comfort of the BW, just hated quality of it and there customer support !!  also looking for something with backlighting.
i could prolly do without , i can touch type , but i love fancy looking lights .

-mx cherry blue
- raised keys
- ~$150 limit
- 104/105 key (full board )
- love filco just so dam expinsive not to have any lighting .

I have been eyebaling the
Filco FKBN104MC/EFB2 Majestouch NINJA Blue Switch
and really want this . but i am torn between not having backlighting .

if anyone knows a good place to order the filco , i am willing to spend a little more .
and if anyone has a compariable option please let me know .

thanks for taking ur time to help

dillon

Ignore Ripster's trollposts. Anyhow, a good bet would be to get the Das keyboard, which would be cheaper than 150, I would think, especially if you can get a student discount. It's apparently a good quality board, but the shininess does suck.
Also, I don't think the Xarmor boards have fixed their issues. Those boards are even worse than the Blackwidow. Beware.

Buy an Xarmor u9bl or a Qpad MK-80, as I did after the terrible  BW experience, you will not regret.

Don't go with the das.  The shininess just isn't worth it.  We have to take a stand against glossy peripherals, for the sake of future generations.

man i cant agree more .. i F**** ing hate gloss finish .. that is what finally promoted me to selling the blackwidow ..  I also dont really like the style of the das , so that one is out ..
it is really between the filco ninja full board , or the xarmor .. but i have just herd to many bad things about the xarmor and is makin me kinda worried .. and the only reason that board is even in the picture is because of the lighting . other wise filco all the way . now just to find someone with it in stock .
and on that note i have herd that the same company ( i one ) is the manuefacture of both the black widow and the xarmor .. which explains why that  board has so many issues .

More or less they are wrote by a single person (who hasn't even touched one of them).

Filcos are overpriced and overrated.

They are not too bad, but nothing that will ever justify their price, starting from the poor keycaps, and squealing spacebars, and ending to the lack of any modern feature,  (backight, media keys, usb hubs, detachable cables and so on).

An option could be buying a das and painting the fingerprint magnet case, an easy task with the spray meant to paint the car's bumpers.

Your opinion about OCN is really laughable.

When the bash BW they are morons, when they share your pathologic hate V.S. Xarmor they are the nicest guys of the planet.

"I love blowing money on stuff.  I do it because I can." That isn't a nice thing to say. Maybe some people don't have the money.
And I know you said that about the Das and Filco. I HAVE read the Wiki. I admire your godliness and being the "number one keyboard expert," but sometimes you say things that may be a bit... off. In any case, you're not a constant troll. Just once in a while, you have a knack at annoying people. :D

Does that mean I can't tell you how I like to eat food and that I eat a ton of food because I can get away with it?  Some people don't have food.

Yea there really isn't much of a choice unless you want to get a keyboard used.

So much hate. Poor OP is just lookin' for a Blue Cherry board.

Xarmor is probably the best choice if you're looking for a backlit keyboard. Might want to loosen up your other specs otherwise.

Okay, I'm gonna be the voice of reason here and say that the Das Keyboard is an amazing keyboard. The glossy finish is a tiny aesthetic point. It's seriously not a big deal. It's a solid, high quality keyboard. You could do much worse.

Plus, it's about the only keyboard with blues you'll be able to find right now.

PS: People here on GH have been getting way too touchy lately. Seriously, lighten up people.

people around here like to nitpick a lot in regards to shiny surfaces on keyboards.  it makes me wonder what razer and das were thinking when they decided piano black finish was a good idea for something you put your fingers all over, but at the same time i do not even notice the fingerprints on my BW unless i really try to look for them.  the only section that is at risk of getting prints anyway is the wrist rest.  i dunno about you guys, but i dont fondle my keyboard so apart from the keys and the wrist rest not a lot of it gets touched.

i know cherry blue boards are kind of hard to find, i just dont think they are nearly as popular as the other switches.  i know the mech keyboard guide over at OCN has a list of keyboards by switch type, might give it a look and see if there is something available that fits your needs, however i think the combination of cherry blues and backlighting is gonna be hard if you dont want a BW ultimate or an xarmor, i dont know of any others available.

thanks for all the advice .if that is what that was . 2 things that i will point out ..
1 . this post was to try to find a good keyboard , at a good cost , with blue switches. NOT to measure ****s ... with that said
2. I personally have had only one mech keyboard and loved it . I loved the noise it put off and the way my finger knew when the click hit . Thus , leading me to mx blue .
I am super picky when it comes to looks but sometimes , u dont need all this fancy **** to impress . Kinda like a girl if she over does the makeup .

point.  Was looking for good opinions , some personal feedback and experiences .

Im going to be puttin in a order with the filco when i can find the one i want . i love the plain , but classy look it has .. and i am sure the quality willl be top notch. and i am almost sure that the product in the box will be better than the actual box ..

all u fellas and maybe ladies, thanks again .

ill update with pictures when it arrives next month some time !

This has been a journey .
I bought the filco and loved it. 2 years later I wanted something with led so  I went with a Ducky shine and loved it.  Been stuck on blue switches and greens but wanted something heavy so I decided I needed something custom. I joined a group buy for a ZZ96. Should be here tomorrow and Ill start to build from there . Going to be building a custom switch. The most clicky switch ive ever herd.  Not sure what to call the switch? Any suggestions ?  The ZZ96 will have thees parts as listed .

*aristotle stem
*Outemu rgb house
*Sprit 100g spring
*Zeal clear v2 stabs
*Uv led
*Slight krytox lube mix for stabs and stem
* SA troubled minds keycap

Any pointers for a new builder ? Something I should watch out for or any good given advice for the first time is welcome. Ill be doing a build log and updating a link here for hose interested.

Um if you use MX Clear stems then they won't be clicky. Unless you're referring to MX Whites, which will result in a soft click.
