Ok i have been lurking on the forums for about a week. Myself and a flatmate have taken mechatronics and I thought it would be cool to make my own keyboard. So I looked into buying some key switches, but the best I could find was about 55cents a switch for black mx cherrys. So I decided to hit up some of the local used electronics shops. I picked up these two bad boys for 10 bucks. The one obviously has blue cherrys which I am exceptionally excited about and the other I just dont recognize. Got it so I could desolder it for the switches, kind of liking the one with blue cherrys so dont want to tear it appart.

1. What are these?
2. How do i get them working with USB, i have the AT to PS2 adapter. Will a straight adaptor to usb do it?

Windows 7 machines btw.

wow, what a nice find! and welcome to GH ;)
that looks like a board of one of these old portable computers, especially with the cord being on the top/inside.

the second one looks like a mixture of cherry ML and ALPS :D i have never seen this, though. do you have a nother pic of that switch?

*edit: on the second question, it has to be an active adapter, something like this: http://www.diytrade.com/china/4/products/3625761/USB_TO_PS2.html
those little ps2 female to USB male wont work, at least they never did for me.

mayb e hard to se from the picture but they say have a little house looking log and HI-TEK printed on teh lower bit of the plastic right on the plate. They all have different number letter combos on top of the keys. F1 key is stuck down and the thing is quite grimy atm, but its likely future is a keyswitch donor. The bottom pic shows the inside of the F2 key cap.

Clicky, the two metal bits you see on the lower section of the top clap together when its pressed. After those contact it keeps going and that white bit of plastic clicks runs on a diagnol channel from left to right and then clicks over at teh bottom of the stroke.

switch actuates with 10 nickles, fully down with another two proabaly, only have one more on hand. That was the most median feeling one to me, they are kind of all over the place atm probalby because of the grime.

* just accidentally opened one getting a key off

Those seem to be without the white clicky bit these have. You can see the channel they run through to generate the click, and the bit differnt base. Only have a small digital with macro or a film camera with macro lens, so you can guess which i have to use. I have been told the blue cherry keyboard is probably from a Dolch portable pc and may work with my comp, remains to be seen when I order a ps2-usb adapter.

Ah can see it peaking out there, the bottom appears to be molded with a slight differnce in the center post (its more T shaped than Y like those) and the white bit springs to the other side of the key switch when the top part is off but other than that a match.
