Question about nostromo/Logitech G13 mods
« on: Sun, 03 July 2011, 21:12:31 »
Hey All, first time post/ short-time lurker

ok, just a couple of quick questions about modding a Nostromo/Belkin/Razer N54TE or a Logitech G13:

I'm a leftie and currently use a Merc Fang in my right hand which is better than just using the numeric keyboard, but have always looked on enviously at my mates Nostromo (because as we all know, if it's for a leftie then it's got to be "ambidexterous" which means fraking equally uncomfortable in either hand), and have decided to bite the bullet and convert either a G13 or a 53TE for right hand use.

I've already seen the "Cherry key" mod for the Nostromo and based on that I believe I can completely rebuild one for my right hand, so my question is, has anyone performed one of these mods already and can show me a build guide?

also, has anyone opened up a G13 and posted pics? I looked but couldn't find.

I'm only in the pre-buy design phase (you know, the one before you goto the Wife with a budgetary requesition request:o)

Hi Ripster - your mod was what drew me here :o) it "looks" relatively easy to modify (I have a mate who used to solder surface mount stuff for a living so REALLY tiny soldering isn't my problem :o) but since my big want is lotsa buttons with a thumb joystick to move in FPS's, maybe the G13 will be easier.. especially since I'm going to have to buy the unit to mod anyway.

thanks for the greeting too :o)

since I'm trying to convert for the right hand, I have vague intentions of scrapping parts of the entire frame, and rebuilding it anyway, so I'd be making the cutouts/frame from brass sheeting or similar and using the orginal as a reversed template.

I did see an open-source sintering machine (well kinda anyway) that you could build for less than $800 that could lay down just about anything you could CAD up, but probably a little exessive for this. lol..
