First Mechanical Keyboard, for gaming

So, I've been considering getting a mechanical keyboard for ages but I think I'm ready to finally purchase one, problem is, I still don't know exactly what I want.

I've been looking at the Steelseries 7g, the Thermaltake Meka G1 (although I don't think they sell this in Europe yet) and the Das Keyboard Professional Silent, but to be honest, I'm still a bit clueless.

I'll be mainly using it for gaming, if that helps, I've heard people recommend black switches for gaming, but I've also heard browns and reds are good, so I'm a bit confused and would appreciate some help.

And yet, I say that all boards (preferably mech) are good for gaming.

I game even on buckling springs no problem. So, if I was you, I'd look at the mechanical guide wiki up top. Read it, then find the force/sound chart and think of what you think you'd like.

From reading the wiki and the links at the end it seems that brown switches would suit me most, due to requiring less force than blacks.

So far it seems like I'll be going for the Das Keyboard Professional Silent, from reading the reviews it seems good, but is there anything bad about it?

Some don't like the shiny surface on the Das (fingerprints and smudges).

I love cleaning my KB. Makes me bond to it. I dont clean my girlfriend as often as I clean my KB. Should I feel bad now?

For me the ability to program the keyboard is quite important.

If you live in UK, you can consider Access-IS's keyboard (easier to find there)


->what a nice setup!

It has cherry black on it, plate mounted, fully programmable, and I believe hoggy here has one for sale.

Thank you, I've already read the Overclocker's Club review, but didn't see the one here.
So, it seems the only major complaint is the thick cable then?

Not having ever laid eyes, much less fingers on one, can't really comment beyond what I see already reported by others.

I have this keyboard (Meka G1), it's a good solid board, and perfect for fps gaming in my opinion.

I just prefer the ISO layout which is why it is not for me.

No known problems, the keyboard is just perfect.

The only "negative" consideration is the illumination level not restored when you reboot your PC

You may also like the TT Meka  also available in the uk layout
