Model M detachable cable to PS2
« on: Tue, 19 July 2011, 17:49:47 »
So I got a model M for cheap but it has no cable just an empty jack. It is the one that looks like a phone jack, and the cable needs to end in an AT or PS2 so I can connect it to my PC.

Does anyone know where I can get one of these or what it is even called, my google searches only come up with 1 on the entire internet and it cost $30 shipped... which is what I paid for the entire keyboard by itself.

Contact the guys at Unicomp, they can hook you up. It's called an SDL cable.

Ah they said it would be $15 for the cable + $10 shipping, I guess I didn't get a good deal on the keyboard after all ($55 total).

LOLWUT. NO! That would potentially damage your computer and keyboard.

You're better off buying the SDL cable from Unicomp.

Ripster, I was looking up the parts to make my own SDL to PS2 cables, when I saw a post you linked someone to about your USB mod. I immediately saw your attempt at the SDL/PS2 cable and am now thinking I sure as hell can't pull it off if you didn't, OR did you eventually get it to work?

If you want to make your sdl2ps2 cable just look here for the pin relations.

Just be careful and check twice with a multimeter what are you doing.

Nope, never found a good supply of parts.

Oh, I tough he had already an sdl cable meant for other usages, buyng just the connector would be pointless even if available, because the expensive clamp needed to place it on the cable.

Are you sure I need an expensive clamp? Why cant I just crimp it with pliers?

Because the crimper sticks these tiny fingers in to seat each pin.

I never used a SDL coneector but I'm reasonably sure that is not so different than a RJ  and the latter can't be clamped with plain pliers
