TIPRO MID XM

- no cables (normal ps2)
- ugly stickers that have to been removed on each button
- some missing clear tops on each module

5€ each if someone buys the whole bunch. Also a proxy would be needed.

Am I wrong, or can these not be used as standalone modules?

Sooo... then unless you already have a [chainable] tipro keyboard that is > 32 keys, these are of minimal use, except maybe for switch/cap harvesting? :p

Definitely wrong, even if Tipro published that and other 8x4 units don't have a controller.

I bought one of the units now on offer from the same seller. It has a controller which is screwed on the PCB and, like any other Tipro keyboard, can be used as an add-on module to another Tipro module, or as a standalone keyboard, or chained with any other PS/2 keyboard.

As for the cable, just take a male/male PS/2 cable, remove the small plastic tongue between the pins on one side and use this side for the 8-pin Tipro plug. It will fit perfectly and the keyboad will be entirely functional (I have been using such a cable for weeks now without any problem).

Does that require a keyboard between the 8x4 unit and a computer?

No.
- You can use the keyboard alone. It has 32 keys which can be programmed in 4 layers each, which amounts to (as one key will have to be used for switching layers) 31x4=124 different characters (or chains of characters or commands).
- You can use it connected with another Tipro keyboard using a small cable (which is contained in the unit and either end of which has to be plugged onto the PCB of one of the boards). That small flat cable is so short that it requires that both keyboards are side by side, ideally joined through a dedicated plastic part.
- You can use it chained with any other PS/2 keyboard. In that case, it is the 8x4 unit which is connected between the other keyboard and the computer. The PS/2 connector of the "normal" keyboard is plugged into the corresponding plug of the Tipro unit, the Tipro unit itself being connected with the computer through a dedicated Tipro 8-pin to PS/2 cable (if you don't have one, you can make one yourself without particular skills as described a few postings ago). This configuration is the one used to program the Tipro keyboard.

The programming software (named ChangeMe) can be downloaded for free from Tipro's website.

Interesting. Using two of these as a split keyboard would be nice - they have the slope and everything.

Remember these units are 8 keys high and only 4 keys wide. Would 2 of them be enough for a split keyboard?
Well, of course one could use more that 2 of them ;-)

Anyway, there are also 8x8, 8x12 and 8x16 units (and several staggered models as well), but those are quite seldom to be found in black and are in any case quite expensive.

Edit: I forgot to mention that they have Cherry MX black switches.

Now they are 1.337 EUR per unit shipped (to me;-)!

Price for all who had subscribed to them so far:
$2 plus shipping (Paypal fees must be caried by the buyer)
1.5 EUR plus shipping.

1.5 EUR per unit plus 9 EUR for shipping.

I accept no more orders for that cheap price, all are sold out.

If anybody else wants one, just tell me what you are willing to pay!

They are quite dirty. Inside, there is a lot of dust.

You can also expect paper cut-outs and office clips, etc.

BTW: I've cleaned one unit under water with a brush. After a few days to let it dry, I plugged it in and it worked.
