87U - Mac - Dip Switches
« on: Sun, 14 August 2011, 21:34:44 »
Is it just me, or do none of the dip switches work on Mac?

I tried dip switch 1 which switches the caps lock and left ctrl key...did nothing.  And as mentioned in another post, numeric keypad does not work in Mac either.

I would have thought the LED switches once the dip switch is flipped, instead nothing happened and the light remained with the original caps lock key button.  Even restarted just in case.

Not really that big of a deal, but I wonder if someone with a Mac/87U combo can confirm.  Of course, I can remap them using the modifier keys if I really wanted to.

The manual that came with the hhkb said to not use the switches while the keyboard is plugged in. Try it unplugged, see if that helps.

Most logically, they're being read after power up.

LOL!  You need to reboot the keyboard for the dipswitches to take effect :-)

Reboot doesn't cut power to the USB ports. So either a cold boot or a disconnect would be required.

I mean it as "Wow, you need to reboot the keyboard?!  That is funny, like in Windows you need to reboot after setup" kinda way.  I would have run into the same problem myself.  Good to know about the DIP switch requirement.

For the record, The HHKB Pro 2 does not need that driver that's linked on elitekeyboards to work. I'm no OSX expert, but that driver was created in the time of Leopard or earlier. I have since hooked up the HHKB to fresh installs of Snow Leopard, and the keyboard and all functions worked properly without installing that driver. All I ever did was set the dip switches for mac mode.

Okay - so you are able to get the embedded number pad to work with the number lock key on the a Mac?  Please advise what I need to get my 87 U to work correctly with the Mac - i.e. the number lock key works and the control key works as a command key.

Thanks,

Numlock does not work and there's no Mac mode.
