Tenkeyless + numberpad - ALT+number problem
« on: Wed, 17 August 2011, 11:09:41 »
Guys, can I do shortcuts for ASCII symbols via ALT+number on my numberpad? I have filco tenkeyless+filco numberpad both via USB. I want for example write @ which is ALT+64 and it doesn't work. Please don't take me exactly on the @ symbol, I am using other symbols that you cannot write on tenkeyless in anyway and now I cannot write them at all and I have to copy them from the character map which is quite a slow way.
Thanks.

Does your numpad send a numlock down, number down, number up, numlock up or every keypress? That might be causing the problem. See if your numpad has a setting that avoids this "laptop friendly" mode.

Also, when you hold a number key down, does it autorepeat like your normal keyboard does?

Can you please give me some tip how to find that?

(the second question is - yes, it does autorepeat)

I don't know about windows, but on linux if you run xev it shows you the keypress and keyrelease events. I have a different numpad, which has a slider switch. The "windows mode" toggles numlock for every keypress, the "mac mode" does not (which is what I ended up using). There should be some windows utility that shows keypress events, if not, boot some live linux from a CD or usb stick and try "xev". Reading your numpad's manual might have further info too, there might be a key combination to toggle this behavior, or a driver option.

Thanks. I did Aquakeytest and really, it presses numlock in each press. So I am doing ALT+NUM+6+NUM+4 and that obviously doesn't work. Sadly I don't see any switch on that filco numpad. It is this one http://www.keyboardco.com/keyboard_details.asp?PRODUCT=620

Check the manual or driver options. There might be a hotkey combination or something, you never know.

FWIW, I have a Leopold tenkeyless and an Adesso mechanical numpad with the same problem, i.e. the ALT+number shortcuts don't work. I've tried connecting the tenkeyless and numpad via USB+USB, PS/2+USB, and USB+PS/2 but none of these combinations solved the problem.
