Bummer that they do not carry the uniform 55g in white. I am tempted to get the black one and switch it into my white variable 86U. Does any one know if the external cases are interchangeable and how easy or hard is it to open up the case? I really want a white uniform 55g with blue keycaps.

The black one has a different backplate colour than the white one. Other than that it should be easy to replace the case.

I've got a White 55g 87U but the thought of a White 45g 87U is very tempting.
I just can't justify it at the moment though - I've convinced myself that my next purchase will be a Black 45g 104U or 106U.

By the way guys, Topre's 10th anniversary is coming up and they have an interesting keyboard planned to celebrate :wink:

Completely agree.  I have a 55g and a variable-weight, and I definitely prefer the variable-weight.  Not necessarily because of the different weights, but because it is lighter weight overall.  I ordered a white all-45g last night, which I think may be perfect for me.

The tactile bump at the top of the 55g is way too strong for my taste, and as a results it is impossible for me to type lightly on them without bottoming out.
I also feel a little discomfort in my ring and pinky fingers from the constant heavy impact.
It is still a nice keyboard, but not suits me well.

Who knows.. I'm too used to the 45g of the Realforce 91 UBY and I don't know if I will actually like the 35g switches.

I think I will throw the idea of getting the one with Hangul lettering from IOmania...and save 65$ (not counting possible custom duties)

Eh until EK comes out with a black uniform weighted 45g 87U I'm ok. When they do, however, I MIGHT consider buying another keyboard.

I can't speak for RiGS, but my own variable-weight Realforce has proven to be somewhat awful for gaming sessions. The A key is way too light, and I often find myself accidentally side-stepping, or accidentally issuing a command in starcraft.

I just made my decission! Love too much the sound of the Topre and I'm used to the 45g force.

Btw the 40g keys were my favourite on the variable, because those are linear.
If topre made an all 40g without that tactile bump I would buy it without any hesitation.
The 35g keys are little bit mushy, but I liked them for typing.

I've never tried a variable force realforce, but comments like this make it likely I never will.

For example, the mailing list email about the new 87U's was sent out a day AFTER they were listed on the website!

And who knows what they'll have next - a black 87U 45g? 104U's? There's just no way to know...drives me nuts.

I just blew the motor in my car and have no idea what repairs will cost so I'm not buying keyboards right now.  

When I saw the all 45g posted so soon I felt violated and was ready to call up Elite and call him names.  Then I calmed down and realized how much I'm enjoying my white variable 87u.   I can always mod it to uniform and back to variable if I wish so in that respect I don't mind so much.

I agree, they are not a very responsive company. I sent sales a note asking if they will offer a white all 55g 87U and no reply. I also did not get any reply from another earlier email. I think I have figured them out however. If they do not reply, then they do not plan to offer it. I guess that they can do this when they are the sole distributor in the US.

Since I am assuming that they will not offer a white 55g 87U, I am torn between getting the white 45g 87u or the black 55g 87u. I think in general, the black case will age better than the white one but I'm not a touch typist so I need to see the letters once in a while. If I get the black model, I plan to swap the keycaps with another color but it seems like that the only color that goes well with black is the yellow and Elite Keyboards did not carry that color when they had some color keycaps in stock. My other option is to use the white keycaps from my 86U (just the letter and numbers ones).

In general, do folks prefer the black or white realforces?

Anyone know what material the case is? According to RiGS, PBT doesn't yellow.

I'm pretty sure the case is ABS. The smell gives it away.
