there are tons and tons of ambidextrous mice that have thumb buttons on both sides

they did it to appease the gamers that don't want thumb buttons and thus would rather go for a 3 button mouse like the classic Microsoft WMO or the Razer Krait/Salmosa/Abyssus, or in Logitech's case the old MX300 or G1

I think its a neat pioneering move, albeit I think it makes the mouse look a lot uglier, the extra buttons just look too out of place, but I'm always for function-over-form, so as long as they don't get in the way it could be a real winner

Looks decent, might pick up one sometime as it's not really expensive. Only problem I have with it is how the buttons look. Placement is ok.

The design is visually questionable but i can imaging to be very comfortable.

With this mouse Logitech seduces me to go back to buy from them.

I dislike ambidextrous shaped mice.  It's like...great now it's the perfect mouse for nobody.  

Looking forward to the day when can I get molds taken of my hands and have a custom mouse made for me.

First reaction: wow that's one small mouse. Those considering Zowie Mico or Razer Abyssus for their petite proportions might be well-advised to wait for a bit longer and see how this one does; personally, I will keep rocking my Deathadder 3G.

Actually, I'd prefer something without buttons on buttons. Generally, two buttons are enough and a wheel isn't that bad to have.

I only use 2 mouse buttons in-games and could live without scroll in the browser, would love a really light mouse with flawless sensor.

G300 retarded sensor placement, probably retarded sensor.
Buttons are good if you play WoW or some thing like that, not an FPS gamer mouse.

Frankly I find most of the sensors available today (and yesterday) more than enough to do everything, gaming included), and I couldn't care less about the sensor placement.

But I cant live with stone age mice w/o features available since the year 2000 like a good scroll wheel with the middle button functionality.

Sensor placement is crucial for palmgrip players who use fast wrist movements or for fingertip grippers. When you do a windscreen wiper like movement, if the sensor not in the middle your movement could be larger if the sensor is on the front or smaller if your sensor is displaced to the back of the mouse... This of course is a matter of getting used to it in most cases since no mouse has the sensor exactly on the same place and you don't place your hand exactly in the same position with every mouse but a great difference can be felt when using high sensitivity sensors and it's placed too far from the center (like the G500).
I don't know why logitech privileges the placement of that weight customization compartment over the sensor in the G500 when the mouse itself is heavy and the provided weights are marginal compared to the final mouse weight (the % of weight customization is ridiculous)... I think they're just adding features for marketing and sales without thinking much about the end-user.

I picked up one of these (and a mx310 for my laptop - which has horrible feet) last week - its about the same size as most current amphidextrous logitech mice. To me the buttons on buttons arn't that bad - the positioning means they stay out of the way most of the time for me, and i tend to use the extra buttons for things like copy-paste rather than regular things.

I don't really have anything good to compare it with but this mouse is *smooth*. I'm using it on a 15 year old computer desk (yes, i will be getting a mousepad, eventually) and it feels like its gliding on silk (more so than the previous logitech cheapie i was using, and the random temporary mice i get for free, and only use when things stop working fine). Personally, i rather like it.
