Hi geekhackers, although i am relatively new here i purchased a Noppoo Choc mini a few months ago and have been enjoying the upgrade from rubber dome keyboards immensely and despite this i still lurk around this forum on a regular basis as i have become a self confessed keyboard enthusiast :O. I do like the tenkeyless layout but recently i have been eyeing a new full size keyboard with blue switches and have had a tough time deciding between two particular models. Although i live in Australia it has become surprisingly easy for me to purchase a mechanical keyboard as there are now a few stores that don't just stock Blackwidows and Steelseries mechanicals but also have Filcos, Leopolds, Das Keyboards etc.

The two keyboards i am particularly interested in choosing between are the Leopold FC-500R (blue switch) (http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=113_1277&products_id=18009) which retails at $109 AUD
Or the Filco Majestouch 2 (blue switch) (http://www.auspcmarket.com.au/info/KE-FKBN104MC-EB2/1838/) which retails at $159.50

I wouldn't have made the thread but i am so torn between them i'd prefer some feedback before i decide to take the plunge, keep in mind i am open to other recommendations for full size mechanicals.

Does that mean that the Filco keycaps don't last as long as the Leopolds or is the difference merely just one of how it feels?

As an owner of both, the biggest difference is how they feel. The modifier keys on the Leopold feel mushier whereas the ones on the Filco feel "sharper." It's a matter of personal preference--I prefer the Filco, but my best friend swears by the Leopold.

Of course, there are other features you may want to look into; mainly the cables and LEDs.

I dont think I can give this a fair comparison. But I own a Leopold and I was over at a buddies playing sc2 and we swapped keyboards for a few games, I love the feel of the leopold much much more.  But like I said the reason I cant make a solid compairson is because his filco is 2.5 years old and has gone thru tons of wear and tear vs a brand spanking 1 week old Leopold. The difference is very noticeable and much much nicer sounding and feels more solid and nicer on the fingers and the sound was not as "cheap sounding" while gaming/typing.  Even the filco owner noticed a pretty solid difference.  Like I said tho the age/wear and tear difference I am sure makes a huge difference.  So I cant give it a fair comparison.

Also the letters on the 1,5,A,S are completly worn off lol, which is typical of ANY terran SC2 player.

Mmm yeah not in the USA but anyway decided to go for the filco ordered it today hopefully should be here within a day or two, just felt that id most likely prefer the feel of the filco over the leopold but either way im sure id enjoy either keyboard, thanks for the help in deciding guys :)

The main down side with a Filco is the ABS, and the slipper glossy caps. I couldn't use those on a daily basis. On the plus side, awesome stability with the Filco with the grips on feet. Led's IMO are better to have not underneath keys when buying a tenkeyless. This gives you more options to change keys later on without worrying about your LED's not showing up.

Yeah, just got it today, feels awesome to type on although moving from a tenkeyless to a full size is certainly harder than i expected, but its so much nicer to type on blue cherries as opposed to browns, just my opinion anyway :) thanks so much for the help in deciding !

Hi Geekhackers! <- GH newbie here from Australia.

I just converted to a mechanical kb, and I am well impressed :D

Just got my hands on a Leopold FC200r Tenkeyless with cherry browns.. and it's freaking awesome. My only gripe right now, is that the back space button has a bit of a squeek to it :(  sounds like it needs some lube or something. Am hoping it's just a wear in thing, perhaps it has a different switch? to handle all the repetition? Not sure what's going on there. other than that, I am chuffed with this bad boy.

You could lube it as per the wiki, or hope it'll go away in time. The switch isn't the problem, the stabilizers are.

Large keys have stabilizers which tend to squeak sometimes. Just pop off the key (gently) and apply a little bit of white lithium grease to the stabilizer metal bar, wherever it hinges.
