clicky stabilizers ?
« on: Tue, 30 August 2011, 12:05:31 »
hey,

I have a Filco majestouch 2 with brown switches and I absolutely love it but there are a few stabilizer keys (backspace, + on numpad, Enter on Numpad, 0 on Numpad) that make a clicky sound made by their stabilizers I guess. If you just wiggle the keys not pressing them at all you can hear the stabilizer clicking. If you press those keys on the edges it's quiet because underneath are the switches obviously but pressing the key in middle makes this clicky sound. I just want to know what's the exact reason of this and if it can be fixed somehow. Is this even normal for stabilizer keys on filco keyboards cause I don't have cherry mx blues :P

edit: the keyboard is new actually. The issue was there since I first touched it.

The wire stabilizers are generally more noisy than the Cherry-style.  It ends up being a trade-off of feel for noise (I would say most people prefer the Filco-style stabilizers to the Cherry-style).  The Filcos I had and my Noppoo were pretty noisy.  The WASD I have is not noisy at all, though, but they lube the stabilizers.  You may want to try that and see if the noise goes away.

When was the Majestouch 2 actually released by Filco? I think it might have something to do with the vendor. I live in germany and maybe the vendor where I purchased it imported the keyboard long ago but hasn't sold it in a long time so the lubricant volatilized ? the keyboard came without a fico puller and without a red escape key :/

It was back in February, IIRC.  I don't think the lube is that volatile, but I could be wrong.  I've owned a Filco for over a year and never experienced any problems.  I would compare it to another Filco if you know someone with one.  I think that the Filco stabilizers are just noisy and that might be what you're hearing.

I have the same problem with all 3 of my MJ2's. A little lithium grease to the stabilizers fixed it right up.
