What is the most wanted collectible keyboard out there beside the IBM M15 and MX5000. Please do not even think about the HHKB, RF, FILCOS, and friends

uTron maybe.  It's not really rare just expensive.  Datahands and Fingerworks 'boards come to mind, too.

I have not been able to locate a uTron yet (its layout sucks big time). Datahand is in production , agree is expensive but is not one of the most wanted

Good call.  The Korean custom 'boards are hot.

I wish the Typenow Solid were a little better (cap-wise) and cheaper.  It's about the closest thing, off-the-shelf, to the OTD 'boards.

I still think the Typenow solid has a better more refined case design than the otd cheat.
Btw replacing the stock keycaps is a no brainer at this premium price range.

True that.  For $400, though, it should be programmable, come with better caps, or something.  As it stands, it almost seems like a Leopold in a nice, aluminium case.

agree, to expensive for nothing more than nice aluminium case. Such price is due to low volume as well

That Leopold controller works and it is awesome. It has 17KRO over USB. Sure better than anything out there.
Why do you want something unreliable?
You can create custom scripts with autohotkey just as fine.
Also mmmty said the aluminium plate felt amazing.
The Steelseries and the Leopold use the same pcb material, and it feels great, and easy to do solder jobs on it.

The IBM M15 was the obvious choice... why eliminate that?

Maybe the space cadet keyboard is a runner up?

Meh. My most wanted keyboard right now would be one of those uber expensive Steno machines (the new flat ones). I'll find a link later.

It doesn't say it on this page, explicitly, but the caps are pretty obvious.

Well, there this on the same page:

When I saw the project it the first time (an era ago) it was my dream, but the price is is really exaggerated, if only the price was around 400/500$ as promised initially...

Think to all the possibilities, like a keyboard virus :becky:

I don't know about all these obscure keyboards, but I've been looking for a G80-1800 ANSI layout that has the windows keys. I've turned up nothing so far.  I can only imagine how hard it would be to get your hands on something in your list.

Oh, and a DataHand.

Oh, I wasn't looking for a picture of the optimus. I was looking for the steno machine - LIGHTSPEED

It's a slick, compact steno machine with amazing keys (people put pads on them to their liking) where you can adjust sensitivity so finely that you really COULD breath on them and they would be actuated/recognized. I know people who aren't interested in Steno probably don't find the keyboard/machine all that amazing, and I myself don't know Steno (the real theory by the way - all chording and extensive dictionary/steno translation software with personal programmed briefs, not what the majority of transcribers use but court reporters and CAT real-time transcribers).

Anyway, THAT is my dream "keyboard." Anyone have $3,000 I could borrow?

Besides the MX5000 (which I have NIB) and the M15 (which one day I'll have but not in exchange of my MX5000 ; )  I did bet 450 Euros a few months ago on an Industrial Mini that I missed (it went for 510 Euros and several people offered more than I did).

510 Euros is not close to the 918 Euros that a NIB MX5000 reached recently but it's still quite a big sum for a keyboard.

That's my most wanted because the industrial mini is just sooo beautiful... (after a M15 but you ruled out the M15 ; )

How about a Beam Spring keyboard that works on modern PCs?

Hey, I've got one of those, hacked together the adapter myself.  It's wonderful to type on, but about as far from being portable as you can get.  There's at least one other member working on a similar project, but via replacing the controller.  Perhaps the only one or two available in the world at the moment.

I'd like to get a uTron myself, though based on reports of the keys not being full-size, probably wouldn't actually use it.  More interested though in getting one to try it out.  I've got a DataHand already, otherwise it would probably be near the top of my list.

I'm with Ripster on this one.  The industrial IBM Space Saving Keyboard probably wins top place.  I was outbid on the only one I've seen for sale (the one sold by Webwit on Deskthority).  I think second place would probably be Ripster's Financial Keycap SSK.

Maybe the rarest though, from what I've seen, would be an IBM 2260 terminal keyboard.  I haven't yet seen a single one for sale.  I guess I'd actually prefer to have one of those over an industrial SSK, but I doubt many others would share my enthusiasm, thus with respect to geekhack members in general, I doubt this would be anywhere near the top of the list.
