Typing differences IBM model M
« on: Fri, 16 September 2011, 13:19:03 »
Hi,

no, I dont want to start another flame war or philosophical
discussion about the IBM model M and the typing experience
one can have with it.

I have an 1381403 (QWERTZ) 1997 made by IBM Greenock Scotland and
an 1386085 (label on the steel plate) of unknown date (according to
date of keyboard controller it is made around JUN1988).
I /think/ that there is difference in typing as I /think/ I need to type with
more force on the 1386085.

Is there any halfway proofen facts which -- for example -- state, that the
springs were made of a different material in the older boards? Or a often
recognized difference of that two boards or anything else of that kind, which
gave me an idea, whether what I /think/ have recognized is a common
dominator of most 1381401 or 1386085 boards?

Hopefully I have created enough confusion now... ;)

Thank you very muchg in advance for any help!
Best regards,
mcc
