Problem with the "Space" of SteelSeries G7
« on: Mon, 19 September 2011, 12:56:39 »
Hi guys,

This tread is about a problem related to the "Space" that I just faced.

Description:

Imagine that the "Space" caps is divided in 10 equal parts (1 at the farthest left side and 10 at the farthest right side).

When I put my finger on positions 1 and 2 and click it feels like I need to put more pressure than when I click on positions 3-4-5-6-7 etc.

Also, if I start clicking  slower (again on position 1 and 2 ), there is this feeling like there is something wrong with the Space caps. It`s like there is something inside the caps which does not allow the "move flow" to be smooth as it should be.

When I put my finger where the switch is (in the middle of the caps) - the problem does not appear... Also - no problems with the right side of the Space caps.

I got the keyboard a couple of weeks ago but the left side of the "Space" caps behaves as it was 10 years old keyboard and it has suffered "a lot of terror" ...

Any suggestion on what could be the problem and how to resolve it ? :/ I really do not want to waste time with repairing services... :/

Have you pulled the cap and inspected the stabilizer?  I would suspect you have a stabilizer that either needs to be reseated or lubed.

Yeah, I did pull of the caps. However, since I am new with this kind of things - could not find anything wrong. I do not even know what exactly "stabilizer" is :/ I checked:

--> the switch - everything seemed to be fine
--> the 2 "things" that are positioned at the farthest left and right side (they are like the switch but can not be pushed down... it`s like they always have to be down or be pulled by the caps when it connects to them).

Nothing I could find out of the norms :/

The two things on the far left and right are the stabilizers.  Just click on ripster's sig.  You'll find what you need there.

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, I don`t think that the stabilizers can be " fixed " that easy since they are pretty different of what I`ve seen in the tread you gave me.

What I have is something like this:

http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRhVTBmTdHrjUBmCZUld8zVlRje7IbLwv94a_dqbPik0MT9hXXbrBzc7EWoiQ

As you can see - the stabilizers do not come up with the "Space" cap. Also - the metal thing that`s between both stabilizers is hidden by some board... Does this means that in order to re-seat the stabilizers or whatever, I will have to open entire KeyBoard ?

The "default" position for the stabilizer is down, so what you can do is pull a couple of the letter caps and put them on the stabilizer stems.  Then, try gently pulling up on the caps to see if you get a full range of motion from the stabilizer.  If it is messed up, I'm not sure I know how to fix it since it's plate-mounted.  The only other option is to push down fairly hard on the spacebar to ensure the stabilizer and the switch stem are fully seated.

Thanks, guys. It appears that one way or another, I will have to go to the store I got the keyboard from and see what they would tell me... Right now, I feel kinda ****ed up... I payed a "bag full of money" and what I got was a piece of ****... What makes me angry is the fact that ppl do not feel ashamed of taking other ppl money for... nothing... ;/
