Old-school bits and boards- Charity sale!
« on: Wed, 28 September 2011, 06:05:55 »
Hello GeekHackers!

Since the old listing suffered from a poor title and Too Much Text, I've decided to start afresh.

I work for a charity- http://www.computers4africa.org.uk is our website- and all proceeds from this sale will go towards sending second-had IT equipment to schools, libaries and other community, education and healthcare projects in Africa.  If you want to donate to the charity, please feel free to do that too!

Unless specified otherwise, all of our keyboards are tested and in full working order.  I can clean keyboards on request (where necessary) though I will make a small surcharge for the service.

Shipping for a keyboard in the UK is about £7 per board via Royal Mail 1st Class delivery (we have had some issues with this, so I wouldn't recommend it- I've removed it as an option from our eBay listings) or £10-£12 for your entire order via CityLink couriers (if you want us to use another courier, feel free to specify).  If you are overseas, or wish to specify a different courier service, let me know and I'll tell you how much I will charge.  All keyboards are individually wrapped and boxed for delivery.

Shipping for smaller items is generally a lot cheaper- if interest is shown I'll work it out for specific items then.

We have for sale a bunch of ALPS keyboards and a bunch of ACER keyboards.

UPDATE: Keycaps have SOLD and are in the mail to mr.bean.

The first thing is the Cherry keycaps:  Badly yellowed, perhaps a little shiny, set of beige ISO 102-key Cherry MX-compatible doubleshots.

Worth maybe £20 to the enterprising buyer.  Offers will be considered as long as you're not taking the mickey. - SOLD

Next is a very nice keyboard, from what I've read it's a Nan Tan board from about 1988.  Complicated white ALPS keys, doubleshot injection-moulded keycaps and a weird (ANSI?) 102-key layout, in extremely good condition.  Uses an AT-compatible DIN port, tested and in full working order.

Ideally looking for about £50 for it, reasonable offers considered.  If there's a lot of interest I might put it up for auction, it really is a very nice piece.

Then we've got another complicated white ALPS board, but this one I've not been able to test because some joker cut the lead off.  [strike]Been toying with the idea of trying to solder a PS/2 lead onto the connectors, but I'm not sure which wire needs to go where as there's no set colour scheme for the wires in a PS/2 or DIN lead[/strike]. UPDATE: I tried soldering a lead on and the controller's busted.  You win some, you lose some.  Still, it's there if anyone's interested in buying it for the switches, offers considered.  This one's not nearly as fancy as the Nan Tan board, but is in ISO 102-key configuration.  Mostly in fairly good condition but a little yellowed and unfortunately the ID label has come off the back so I can't tell what model it is.  Keys are pad printed but good quality- none of the "decal" look here.  Backplate has a couple of minor rust spots, but isn't too bad.

Interested in offers on this one, the switches are worth something but [strike]until I can get a lead soldered on right I can't say for sure whether or not the board is.  Will update the listing if I can get that done.[/strike] the board it pretty much useless.

We do also have two boards with white ALPS XM clones.  Not bad boards, fairly good condition, quality pad-print keys in what I think is an ANSI 102-key layout.  AT-compatible DIN socket.  Tested and working.

Looking in the £30 range, but open to offers.

The boards we have the most of are Viglen-branded ACER keyboards, mostly black ACERs with a couple of whites, all clicky keys, all ALPS-compatible keycaps, some of which are printed and some of which look lasered.  Printed keys are decent quality, no "decals."  These feel very solid, quite heavy boards with steel mounting plates and a steel back on the keyboard.  The feel of the ACER keys is actually quite nice- I prefer them to ALPS XMs, myself, feels like a relatively light clicky action.  ISO layout, mostly 105 key (though there is at least one 102).

These are in a variety of conditions and are varying degrees of dirty, so exact pricing will depend on the board but I'll generally be looking for between £10 and £20 for these- most likely price for a board in decent condition is about £15.

And last, but not least, we have the Dell AT102W bonanza.  This is an example of a Dell AT102W:

ISO 105-key layout, ALPS black complicated switches, tactile but non-clicky with lasered keycaps.  The case is quite large, but the board (keys and backplate) is actually quite a reasonable size so potentially useful if you're into modding.

We've still got one Dell AT102W in excellent condition available on our eBay listing here.  £20 for it.

This board is as close as you'll get to new condition without actually being NIB, though this one is a refurb rather than an actually new 'board (we did have a couple of those but we sold 'em).  Significantly better condition than the one in the picture above :D.

We sold our last "budget" board (in poor condition, but they went cheap) last week, but we do have some slightly cheaper boards left- fairly average boards here.  £15 a pop.

These boards are in reasonable second-hand condition.  A few of them do have rust on the backplate, but so far of the 20 or so second-hand AT102Ws I've seen only about five or six didn't and two of those were NIB.  Mostly though, they're a little bit yellowed, maybe a little bit scratched or marked but in decent condition for all that.

We also have two complete AT102Ws in black, and one with a missing F2 key.  They're all in what I would consider "average" condition, maybe a little closer to the upper end of the bracket as there isn't much rust on the backplates but one or two keys on them are quite shiny.  Final price will depend on interest and/or offers, but I'd like to start at £20 for the complete boards, because the black ones are a lot rarer than the standard beige.  The incomplete board is literally just missing the keycap- any ALPS-compatible cap will fit, though I don't know if you're likely to find a black one.

The final bit of our AT102W bonanza is a non-woking board which is currently in bits (as parts of it have been used to refurbish other keyboards).  It has a full set of switches, which appear undamaged (I think the problem is on the circuit board, as changing the PS/2 lead has no effect), a full set of lasered beige ALPS keys (though they aren't in very good condition and a couple of the stabiliser-bar hooks have been "borrowed" to replace ones that snapped on other boards) and case (which is not in the greatest condition ever) though the PS/2 lead is missing.  The backplate is rusty, but not absolutely horrific.  The main use I can think of for this board is nicking the switches or the keys to use somewhere else (maybe even just nicking part of the switches- complicated switch base plus XM click-leaf makes a workable ghetto complicated white).  Any offers considered.

I'll take the double shots if you can include shipping to Belgium in the price.

Shipping to Belgium?  Since you're within the EU and it's a small item that shouldn't be a problem.  Can you pay by PayPal?

As of yesterday, they are in the mail.  Delivery time should be no more than a week, and should be less than that- the estimate I got when I booked postage was 3-5 working days.
