Possible source of Keyboards

About 4 years into my current job , the building next time mine's sign really registered as a Wholesale computer business.    Basically they work alot with lease equipment and refurb hardware for companies.  


I talked to the guy today and he's going to let me come paruse his stock of Keyboards. He said one of the local businesses use alot of Cherry Keyboards and I'm hoping to find some of the mechnicals to perhaps buy some used boards in bulk.  


Do you guys recommend  printing off the wiki of brands and models to take with me as I look ?  I'm hoping to find a jackpot of  older boards with Double shot keys or mechanical switches but I really don't know what he'll have yet.

Most likely you will find some alps or some cherries.  Model Ms maybe :D. Mostly a crap load of domes.  Good Luck.

Yeah I threw out some "bait words" like Old IBM Model M's and Cherry's and Dell AT101w    etc...  I Let him know this is for a Niche market of Keyboard junkies " No we don't care for the nice shiny slightly used Dell keyboards.... We want the Smack you in the face and break your teeth out type of keyboards ... Unless they are Dell AT101w's ..... "


He does alot of POS devices and money counters and cash registers etc....

The POS boards make great switch try boards, as I mentioned in another thread that I believe you started...  the G80-8200 PS/2 version is NKRO on PS/2 (you need a real converter for USB, the purple plug won't work) making it somewhat useful as a cheap-a$$ gaming board if your tastes run that way, even though it looks a little goofy with the mag stripe reader built in.

lots of great g80 possibilities but also lots of crappy g81 my switches only good for doubleshots. i think you should get a keypuller (a good one) and just ask to go in there and have the gamut to just put one switch off a board, you can then tell the switch type and see if it's doubleshot by looking underneath the keycap.

That is what I wanted to suggest.. pulling a keycap says enough usually :)

That may work , I don't know how he's going to feel about me pulling switches off his products he plans to sell/refurb etc.

I'd think that as long as you make it clear that it will not damage the keyboard and you know what you're doing, he won't have a problem with it. I don't think it's really necessary for you to print out the whole wiki. The key models and numbers are fairly easy to remember and find on the boards. Just look for Cherry G80s and Model Ms. With the G80s, if they have an H in the model number immediately following the G80-xxxx, you know that they're double shots and you should offer the fellow something for it. The only ones that may be hard to pick out are the ALPS boards, as there're so many different brands. Take a look see for Chicony boards too while you're there. Those can be worth having as well.

LOL Well I'm trying to present this "deal" as professional as possible.   Throwing out hot words like " Interested buyers.... "    " Niche Market .... "   " Bulk purchases..... "   Once I get in there and talk to the guy , I am hoping to have HIM be on the look out to notify me when he gets certain things in stock from a new License ended.  

He does things like licensing for huge companies like Advanced Auto.  Basically they Lease say 200 Computers for 3 years , then turn them in for upgrades.... And he gets the old parts and refurbs them and leases them out to someone else.  (Just an example )

But he said he does do some retail and has nothing against retail.
