DeathAdder Black Edition Vs. DeathAdder

I'm looking to get a DA. I prefer the look of the Black to the blue LEDs on the regular version, however the Black appears to use its own drivers (v1.0 for Black, vs. 3.0 for regular). Can anyone confirm if the Black Edition mice will work with the standard DA 3500dpi drivers? The issue for me is finding a mouse with Mac OSX 10.7-compatible drivers.

Do you absolutely need drivers? With deathadders you can set your preferences on one pc and then never use drivers again. Just an idea.

Not absolutely. There are third-party apps (ControllerMate, SteerMouse, etc.) which do much the same thing. It would be nice to have a natively supported mouse though. Less chance of bugs, glitches, etc.

But once you set it up once there is no need for drivers ever again with Razer mice.

Just need to update the firmware to fix some of the LoD and jittering issues (if it has) and you're set to run it driverless on Mac, as far as I know. I'd go for black rather than the normal, since it has rubber sides so gunk doesn't build up as fast and it's not slippery if you have sweaty palms.

Both the Deathadder Black and the regular edition have mac drivers. I'm not sure if it's the same driver, but both are supported.

I use the regular DA on 10.7, despite the fact the fact that Razer only show compatibility with 10.5 and 10.6.

Thanks everyone for clearing that up. I checked the release date on the driver and it's May 2011. I took a chance and bought the Black Edition, it installs fine. Combine that with ControllerMate and a newly acquired RealForce 86UB and you have a pretty awesome combination.

And thank you for not contributing the the ZOMG 5000 DPI SHINY MICE market. :cheer2:
The Deathadder is one of the only good current gen sensors.

LOL you're welcome. I'll take a matte finish over gloss any day – one of the reasons I traded in my Das for a RealForce. I looked at the Mamba however it was glossy and $130. I was replacing a wireless Logitech MX1000 and wanted something simple and lightweight with no batteries to worry about. I rarely ever game, but I think any device – whether it's for a computer or your kitchen – should work well. The DeathAdder takes the basic ideas of what a mouse is and does them really, really well.
