I'm not a big fan of Apple but like someone said, a life is a life.

May you rest in peace, S.J.

Very sad news. I dislike apple products and I did not like the attitude of mr Jobs but that doesnt matter and I am very saddened by these news.

Bash Apple as much as you want, Steve Jobs was at the forefront of pushing the concept of a GUI into the mainstream.  Xerox invented it, but he was the one that saw the potential and propagated it.  It's impossible to say that the industry would be the same without him.  Rest in peace, Steve Jobs.

I don't care for current Apple products or the recent penchant for releasing a slightly better version of a product every 6 months, but Steve Jobs was very much responsible for PCs as we know them today, and for that, I respect him. He was a successful businessman, and capitalist, and even though his methods irritate me to no end, I cannot say that I would not do the same if I was in his position. His death will no doubt be felt for a long time.

Current Apple products like iPhone, iPod, iPad, all of which are the most popular, innovative, and commercially successful products of their class and are copied by everyone, just not as well? As far as a slightly better version every 6 months, I think is great, it's chasing the price down, always getting the freshest technology, not waiting for a mythical "model year". I believe his methods are spot on, even his competitors love him for expanding the potential market with new products, services and directions.

No wonder Apple was the biggest American company for a day a couple months ago. The biggest.

Thanks Mr. Jobs, I love your methods, just like everyone that has one of your devices. How many is that?.....Wow, that's a lot of people.

Apple is certainly best value for money if design and beauty is important to you, else I have to disagree. I find the mac pro to be overpriced.

I've personally fallen out of love with Apple products recently but I have used Macs all throughout university and currently at work. And now, without Steve, it'll be hard for me to see Apple the same way ever again.

I'm not big on Apple products and he always struck me as a snide, vaguely unpleasant guy, to be honest.  I don't hold it against him though, and I do admire the balls in wearing the same awful black turtleneck/Levi's Jeans/New Balances outfit for for decades straight.  More genuinely, I do like the effect he's had on the rest of the consumer IT industry, Apple products are good, they're just too closed for me, and they've forced Microsoft, Google, Asus, et al. to make things less crap than usual.  I don't give him as much credit as some though, one idiot on another site actually said this:

Quote
Without Steve knowledge we probably still be using pagers, those big ass cell phones,or trying to find a job using those loud type writers to type a resume, we all should thank god for a wonderful knowledgeable man that he loan us for 56 years RIP on behalf of the world we'll miss you.

Title of thread is "Steve Jobs passed away".

S.J. did more in a week for decades than most people here that are bashing him or his company will do in their best year ever. He has affected virtually the entire world, and even if you keep your head in the sand, his efforts still affect you in a positive way, directly or indirectly, like it or not.

Who cares if you love or hate the man, company, products, etc. His track record is indisputable. Anything else is just an opinion on a forum. Everybody has one.

I don't think you understood (or possibly didn't read) my post.  I wasn't bashing him, quite the opposite in fact.  Just taking my thoughts for a walk.  On a side note, the literal defintion of "forum" is a place for expressing your opinions.

I wasn't addressing your post, I totally got what you are saying.
Forums are for opinions, just highlighting that, relative to the title.
I'm not taking the time to delve into this appropriately, just blasting on and off as time allows, I probably shouldn't post if I can't spend the time needed to be clear.
