J key snapped off on my Noppoo Choc Mini...
« on: Fri, 07 October 2011, 12:26:01 »
The J key was feeling incredibly loose just now, so I popped the key off, and half of the switch came with it... What can I do about this?

It is probably repairable. There's a fair amount of information in the repair section of this wiki post: http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=Cherry+switches+and+boards . You might have to do some soldering or buy a new switch, worst case, depending on how it came apart. You might also just need to snap it back together, in which case it would probably work, but you should look into replacing the switch.
Owns, no particular order:
Ricercar SPOS (Variable Force Mod number 3), 122-key IBM terminal board (future project to learn a Teensy), 1993 IBM Model M, Dell AT101W, 3x Cherry G80-8200LPBUS (2 in pieces, 1 modded to Ghetto Reds), Cherry G80-1190HRMIT(Variable Force Mod), Wang 724 Terminal Keyboard (Pink Alps), Cherry G84-4100, Cherry G81-LUMUS, a pile of random old ALPS Macintosh boards in poor condition.
Wants:
Odd keyswitch boards for cheap (NEC sliders, space invaders, other weird stuff), Cherry Blues for cheap

Any ideas on where to buy MX Cherry Brown switches? It was just the stem that snapped off.

If you just need a Brown stem, give me an address in a PM, I'll send you a few. I have a pile of extras from a mod I did. If you need the whole switch, use the link in the above post.
