need to know what keyboard is smaller in the KEY SPACING only
« on: Fri, 07 October 2011, 16:29:09 »
so im deciding between a noppo choc mini and a deck 82

its so in sc2 i can hit the f keys without lifting my hand off the keyboard

i have to be able to hit ctrl and f1->4 while holding ctrl

basically i cannot find a dimension for the keys only nor the spacing between them

btw first post here obviously... recommended from OCN :)

The 2 board you specified are the same in that regard.
Filco w/ Imsto thick PBT
Ducky 1087XM PCB+Plate, w/ Matias "Quiet Click" spring-swapped w/ XM Greens

one thing you should probably consider is that the deck only has cherry mx blacks for its deck 82 whereas the choc mini has most of the switches save for maybe clears.

There's a wiki for that.

Basically, mx blacks require more force to actuate than i.e. mx reds.

Simply remapping Capslock to Control would solve your problem though, unless you need that for something else.

I guess I'm lucky to hit ctrl and F1-F8 with one hand on a normal keyboard. If you can adjust to the ctrl & capslock switch on the choc mini then you could reach even further.

yeh i was always wondering about remapping useless caps lock but it would take some getting used to

what about mx browns? do those require more force?

brown is equivalent to red in force required, it's got small tactile bump as compared to the linear red.

are the 2 keyboards im choosing between so then brown is technically superior for the person who doesnt want to use more force to hit the key

i think brown is up my ally

im getting a mechanical keyboard so my actual keystrokes dont get messed up and not recorded like on a membrain style cheapo board
i dont need anything extra so whats the tactile bump exactly?

nvm found the answer... i do NOT like tactile bump what are my options to not have this happen... im already trying to silence my board with those foam things so anything similar to tactile feedback is MOST unwanted and a dealbreaker

Ok Blue's *click* and have some physical feedback.  Browns do NOT click but have physical feedback.  Blacks are stiff with no tactility at all, reds are less stiff with no tactility (this is linear).  Then there's also clears which are stiff like blacks, tactile bump that's harder than browns, and no click (also very few boards available).

Since you're playing sc2 and given your current opinion about tactility I'm betting everyone will be suggesting reds.  I still say browns tho :)

With or without foam pads or o-rings or whatever the keyboard will still make noise.  If you have silent switches (brown, clear, black, red) then the noise will come from the keycap bottoming out and topping out.  You can apparently learn not to bottom out (I will never bother).  As for topping out... nobody really has an answer as far as I've seen.

Get that.  Sexy, great for sc2, keys feel great.
If you have questions ask qtan in his store's sub forum. Most pros use browns for sc2.

You don't need to remap ctrl+capslock on the choc mini. There is a "Switch" key to do it for you if it is what you prefer.
